The tangleroot is a skilling pet that can be obtained when checking the health (for patches that have this option, like fruit trees) or when harvesting the final crop (for patches without a "Check-health" option) of a farming patch. It may also be obtained while playing the Tithe Farm minigame or from killing the Hespori. The chances of getting it are dependent on the player's Farming level and the crop the player is harvesting.

When a player receives the pet, it will automatically try to appear as their follower. At the same time, a message in the chatbox will state You have a funny feeling like you're being followed. However, if a player receives a pet while having a follower out (for example, a cat), it will be placed into their inventory. When this occurs, the message in the chatbox will instead state You feel something weird sneaking into your backpack.

Unlike pets such as the rock golem, an incoming farming resource such as a herb or hespori seed will take precedence over the farming pet. If the player already has a follower and the remaining inventory slots are then filled by an incoming farming resource, the player will not receive the pet[1] and must instead claim it from Probita in East Ardougne. Should the player obtain the pet while harvesting giant seaweed, the pet will not be lost upon drowning.

On death, if a player loses their pet (as a follower or in your inventory) it will wander around the area for 30 seconds before despawning. Even if the player returns in time, the pet cannot be picked up, and can be reclaimed from Probita. If a seed has been used on tangleroot and is lost upon death, the pet will revert to its original form and the player must use another seed on it upon reclaim.

Variants

Players can change the tangleroot's appearance by using various seeds on it. This will consume the seed. To revert the tangleroot to its original form, players must use an acorn on it.

Drop rates

The pet chance is rolled primarily during a patch's check-health stage; if the patch does not have an option to check health, it instead rolls during the final harvest.[2]

A player's actual chances of receiving it is 1 in B - (Lvl * 25), where B is the base chance and Lvl is the player's Farming level.[2]

The fastest method on average to receive Tangleroot is by frequently farming cactus (NOT potato cactus), belladonna, hespori, giant seaweed, and mushrooms, as well as doing regular tree runs. Although using only trees takes the least amount of time spent on Farming (thus being more efficient), it is extremely slow in real time, taking upwards of two years on average with daily tree runs.

Even though Tangleroot is obtainable from the Tithe Farm, it is extremely unlikely: in terms of probability, it would take nearly 3 billion Farming experience on average, equivalent to 25,000 hours of playing.
