Cat gets Wily
The jingle that plays when a cat ges wily.

A wily cat is a special variant of a pet cat, which players gain access to by completing the Ratcatchers quest. After completion, players can speak to Felkrash to have her train their overgrown cat into a wily cat. (Warning: After training your overgrown cat to be a wily cat, you will start from zero for the number of rats caught for the cat training medal. Wily cats are also ineligible for the medal.)

Wily cats are the best hunters of any cat, with a base success rate of 50% plus an additional success roll which increases based on their activity level, capping at an additional 50% success roll. When fighting hell-rat behemoths, they have higher health, get hit less often, and have twice the DPS of a regular cat. In addition, they can also catch kalphite larvae and butterflies (as well as Hunter butterflies, though this yields no experience). Wily cats do not require food of any kind (except when fighting hell-rat behemoths).

Players are only allowed to have one wily or lazy cat at a time, in addition to one kitten or adult cat, and as many overgrown cats as they wish. You may have multiple wily cats if you first store your existing wily cat in your menagerie before training another.

Wily cats have a hidden "happiness" status, which can result in 3 different sets of standard dialogue depending on whether the cat is happy, content, or unhappy. A wily cat's happiness decreases when it is not given attention for an extended period of time, similarly to raising kittens. A content or unhappy cat's mood can be improved through stroking and playing with the cat. It can also be improved by taking the cat rat catching.

When fighting Hell-Rat Behemoths, the King rat, or in the Rat Pits, cats have the following combat stats:[1]

6 4 3 1 0
10 3 5 1 0
12 12 8 2 2

Training

After completion of Ratcatchers quest, an overgrown cat can be trained into a wily cat. When the wily cat eventually reverts to a lazy cat, it can be re-trained into a wily cat by repeatedly catching rats (both normal and hell-rat versions). Around 15 rats have to be caught; once the threshold is met, then the player simply needs to wait around 5-10 minutes and the lazy cat will transform into a wily cat with no further input required.[2] If the cat does not seem to transform after catching rats for an extended period of time, players can pick up their lazy cat and re-drop it to reset the 'training timer', as otherwise it may be possible to keep training them indefinitely to no avail.

It is not possible to re-train a lazy cat into a wily cat using a ball of wool to play with them or by stroking it, only by chasing rats.[3] Likewise, having your cat chase a mouse toy will not transform it back into a wily cat.[4] Like lazy cats, wily cats have a hidden activity level that is incremented by catching rats, which will in turn increase their catch rate as it is raised higher.[5] The activity level increments by 1 after every 5th kill, and caps at 7, or 35 total kills. When attempting to catch a rat, it first rolls a 1/2, and if it fails, it then rolls 1 / (9 - ACTIVITY), ranging from 1/9 to 1/2 depending on the activity level. A max activity level wily cat has the highest catch rate of all cats, rolling two 50% chances for the catch to be successful.

Wily and lazy cats can be named by speaking with Felkrash. The name can be a combination of any six letters or spaces, but no numbers. Note that the name will be used in the RuneScape interface for every wily and lazy cat the player has.

Players are only allowed to have one wily or lazy cat out or in bank at a time, in addition to one kitten or adult cat, and as many overgrown cats as they wish. You can however have multiple lazy/wily cats by storing them in your menagerie before training another. Players can store both lazy and wily cats in their menageries. Wily cats will not become lazy while in a menagerie.
