The strange old lockpick is a potential reward from the Hallowed Sepulchre. It can be used to open any set of doors within the Barrows. It comes with 50 charges, which deplete when used to open a set of doors. The lockpick is only tradeable when fully charged. After all 50 charges have been used it disappears. When running low on charges, the High Level Alchemy spell can be used to recoup some of the costs, since its value stays high even when used.

The strange old lockpick provides a better success rate for opening coffins within the Hallowed Sepulchre compared to a normal lockpick.^[1] Additionally this lockpick will speed up looting coffins compared to having a normal lockpick or no lockpick. It does not use any charges when used in the Hallowed Sepulchre.

Despite being an improved variant of a lockpick within the Hallowed Sepulchre, it cannot be used in place of a regular lockpick outside of the Hallowed Sepulchre.^[2]

The drop rate is 1/200 for the 1st floor, 1/120 for the 2nd floor, 1/90 for the 3rd floor, 1/60 for the 4th floor and 1/40 for the 5th floor.

• Its name is an allusion to the strange old man, the mysterious gravekeeper of the Barrows.
• If the player uses the strange old lockpick in the Barrows into a hallway with locked doors while having only one charge left, the following message will appear: The Strange old lockpick almost breaks, but seems in good enough shape for one more use. This is presumably to prevent players from getting stuck. If teleporting out without using the last charge, the strange old lockpick still crumbles to dust.

Bug:

If the strange old lockpick is in a looting bag and the player dies, the lockpick will remain in the looting bag until it is obtained again, where it will be stored. The only way to retrieve it as an ultimate ironman is to obtain a new looting bag and destroy it in the wilderness, dropping the strange old lockpick to the ground.
