Owls are birds that can be found roaming the third floor of the Hallowed Sepulchre in Darkmeyer. They are spectral creatures, symbols of the wise; they are blessed by Saradomin and the wisdom of ages long past. They are the watchers of the Hallowed Sepulchre, and the last defence against unseen evils. They accompany the Knight of the Owl in service of Zachariah, Justiciar of the Owl.^[1]

Owls are rare creatures that may once have widely inhabited Gielinor; none can currently be found outside of the Sepulchre.

An owl depicted in the colours of Saradomin serves as the motif for the holy Sanguinesti staff.

• The examine text is a reference to William Shakespeare's play, Love's Labour's Lost, in which he describes the mating call of the Tawny Owl. "Then nightly sings the staring owl, Tu-whit; Tu-whoo, a merry note".
  • At the time it was believed to be a call from a single owl, however it has been later clarified to be the Male "tu-whoo" (To who?) calling and getting a response from a female "tu-whit" (To what?).
