The dark totem base is an item obtained from monsters found within the Catacombs of Kourend (excluding ghosts). All Superior Slayer monsters encountered in the Catacombs are guaranteed to drop a dark totem piece.
This item can be combined with the dark totem middle and the dark totem top to create the dark totem, which is used to reach Skotizo, a demon that lurks beneath the Catacombs.

Item sources
The drop rate of a dark totem piece (excluding superior slayer monsters and Skotizo) is determined by the number of hitpoints the monster has.

Trivia
- Previously, the High Level Alchemy value of a dark totem base was 6. This was changed sometime in late 2016 to 123 so that it would appear above less valuable items when on the ground.
