The small key is an item dug up on the Onyx Crest by following the lockbox directions from the lockbox on Anglers' Retreat: "On the Onyx Crest, dig where lots of gold is close, but your gems are closer."

The small key can be obtained without ever obtaining the lockbox directions, and can be banked should the player not have the level 51 Sailing requirement to dock on Anglers' Retreat.

Upon opening the lockbox on Anglers' Retreat with this small key, players are given the gale catcher schematic.
