Chartin' Charles McAtless is a blind mapmaker with a mute seeing eye parrot named Spot. He is the target of a spyglass Sea charting task. He is located inside the cave on The Pandemonium, next to the Bank Crab.
For completely charting an ocean, he awards the player bonus Sailing experience and the ability to purchase various Sailing-related ales that provide unique boosts and effects. Each has an additional unique effect when stored in a keg onboard a player-owned ship. Charles does not have a shop interface and all drinks are purchased through dialogue.
Training
Note: You must have the captain's log in your inventory to receive the bonus XP. If the player boosted their Sailing level to finish charting an area, they must boost it again before talking to Charles in order to receive the bonus experience. For example, if the player charted the Western Ocean by boosting to 66 Sailing, they must boost to 66 again before claiming the experience.

Ales
Charles will sell single ales for 300 coins or 25 noted ales (enough to fill a keg) for 7,500 coins once the unlock requirements have been met. There does not appear to be a limit on how much ale can be purchased.
To purchase any of the ales after speaking with Charles, select "What do I get from charting the sea?", then "Can you tell me about these drinks?"
For the purposes of Charles's calculations, the miscellaneous categories (Bonus Drinks, Bonus Currents, Bonus Dives, and Bonus Weather) each count as a "sea," so in total there are 74 "seas" – 70 proper seas and 4 miscellaneous categories.

Trivia
- Spot, the mute parrot on Charles' shoulder, may be a reference to Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl in which a mute pirate named Cotton has a parrot to talk for him.
- When purchasing drinks from Charles, if you do not have enough coins, he will claim you do not have enough space to hold it all. You only need one inventory space as he will give you the drinks in noted form.
- This NPC is a reference to the real-life bodybuilder Charles Atlas.
- Charles had a festive override wearing a Santa hat during the 2025 Christmas event.
