A portable weather station is a device given by Meaty Aura Logist to measure weather patterns as part of sea charting. Charting weather requires a Sailing level of 57; boosts can be used, and must be maintained upon starting and getting readings.

Interacting with the item displays a chatbox message indicating which cardinal direction the wind is blowing toward relative to the player's current location. Following the wind readings will take the player in a circle. Taking a reading at the centre of this circle will turn it into a data filled portable weather station, at which point it is returned to Meaty Aura Logist (players must return to the original location where they received the device).

One strategy to find the centre of the circle is to travel perpendicular to the direction of the wind. If the circle runs clockwise, turning right will bring you toward the center, while for a counter-clockwise circle you would need to turn left.

For example, if the reading says "north east", you would want to set your heading to south-east for a clockwise circle, or north-west for a counter-clockwise circle.

• Originally, players would acquire a rusty portable weather station from Meaty Aura Logist, where they would then use an anti-rust tonic (which is readily available in a cargo hold) to restore the device.
