Completing medium clue scrolls is the only way to obtain certain cosmetic items as well as the very valuable ranger boots (worth 32,515,792 coins). This makes completing medium clues rather profitable, with the average clue reward valued at 141,996 coins.

While Eclectic impling jars are more commonly known for their 1/25 chance to contain a medium clue scroll, Essence impling jars can also be opened to obtain medium clue scrolls at a 1/50 rate. This makes them less popular but more cost effective and profitable. At current rates, it would cost on average −85,120.00 per medium clue scroll from Essence impling jars compared to −87,495.00 if obtained from Eclectic impling jars.

Because many Essence impling jars need to be opened per medium clue, it is important to minimise time spent opening jars by taking advantage of the fact that dropped clues persist for 1 hour before despawning. Start at a convenient bank such as the Grand Exchange or the Crafting Guild. Withdraw 15 Essence impling jars, and spam click on the last jar in your inventory. When you receive a clue, drop it on the ground. Open your bank, click on the Deposit Inventory button, withdraw 15 more jars and repeat until you have 10+ clues on the ground. Then set up your inventory with teleports and jewellery and start completing your clues. Opening jars with an empty inventory is faster because spam clicking on a jar opens all jars in the inventory almost instantly, enabling the maximum amount of jars opened per tick spent banking.

To maximise profit per hour, it is important to complete each step of the clue as quickly as possible. While using teleports to get around is expensive, it will save a lot of time. The amulet of glory, games necklace, ring of dueling, necklace of passage, Digsite pendant, and Xeric's talisman are essential. Spellbook Swap can be used to cast teleport from every spellbook. As you need inventory space for these teleportation items, STASH units can be used to save inventory space on clue items. Alternatively, building portals in your player-owned house and carrying a stack of house teletabs can save on inventory space, runes and spellbook switching.

Master clue scrolls have a drop rate of 1/30, and if completed in an effective manner, in 6-8 minutes, the hourly profit from opening Essence impling jars will increase by approximately 186,660 gp/h
