Prayer penetration is a mechanic where monster or player attacks will partially or fully ignore the effects of protection prayers. Prayer penetration can range from 0% to 100%.

Attacks with prayer penetration generally still perform an accuracy roll comparing the attacker's attack bonus against the defender's defence bonus.

High-level bosses often have prayer penetration, particularly in raids.

Players generally only get access to prayer penetration during limited-time game modes such as Leagues.

"Typeless" is old terminology that refers to attacks with 100% prayer penetration.

Prior to the release of the Chambers of Xeric in early 2017, protection prayers would reduce either 100% or 0% of a monster's damage. An update to the game engine allowed intermediate values to be selected, which marked the beginning of partial prayer penetration.
