Polestaves are a category of melee weapons that are fully based on a crush attack style. They provide an attack style in each of the three melee styles, and do not provide any magic autocasting. Apart from the names, their combat options are identical to those of blunt weapons.

Despite the existence of the mutually exclusive banners weapon category, there are several “banners” (ex. the Arceuus banner) in the polestaff category. These are listed below.

Polestaves are essentially identical to staves, except for the ability to autocast spells. Whereas staves are able to select a spell to autocast in at least one spellbook, polestaves lack such ability and serve solely as a melee crush weapon.

The mjolnirs, being affiliated with the gods, provide protection from their related factions in the God Wars Dungeon. But their stats are roughly equivalent to that of an iron 2h sword, which make the mjolnirs serve little purpose apart from cosmetic. Since players can only find each mjolnir once (during The Enchanted Key), players who lose or sell their mjolnirs can only re-obtain the item through trade with another player.

Most polestaves have subpar combat bonuses and therefore tend to only be useful as cosmetics or for their non-combat abilities (such as the mjolnirs' God Wars Dungeon protection, or the teleports provided by the Pharaoh's sceptre and western banners).

• Mjölnir, one type of polestaff weapon, is the name of the hammer of Thor in Norse mythology.
• Until a 28 April 2021 update, the skull sceptre and imbued skull sceptre used to be classified as a polestaff.
