Banners, also referred to as flags, are a category of melee weapons. They are essentially wieldable signs. Categorically they are similar to spears, but their lack of combat bonuses suggests they aren’t intended for combat.

Players cannot wield banners when on a PvP world, as their large clickbox could be used to grief other players. If the player already has a banner equipped when switching to one of these worlds, it will automatically be unequipped and moved to the player's inventory if it has space, or to their bank if it does not. In case both are full, the banner will be sent to Perdu, from whom it can be reclaimed at no cost. There are some exceptions to the banner ban: players can still hoist a trailblazer, shattered, or protest banner on a PvP or target world.
