Moon equipment

Moon equipment refers to a number of sets of combat equipment found in the Lunar Chest inside the Moons of Peril activity. There are three sets of Moon equipment: all three can be used by warriors, but one each is for melee/ranged and melee/magic hybrids. Each set has four pieces: a two-handed weapon, a helmet, a torso piece, and legwear. When all four pieces for a particular Nagua are equipped, a special set effect is granted, which is different for each set. Moon sets cannot be made using the Smithing skill.

Blood moon (Melee)

A player activating the Blood moon set effect, Bloodrager.

50 Defence and 75 Strength is required to wear the armour, and 70 Attack and 75 Strength is required to wield the weapon. Blood moon is purely Melee armour.

The dual macuahuitl, even alone, has unique mechanics. The weapon hits twice per attack, dealing damage in two hitsplats spaced 1 game tick apart, with the second hit having lower accuracy than the first and both hitsplats having their max hit halved. Upon attacking a target, there are two accuracy checks. If the first check succeeds, the game will roll damage for the first hit, then roll a second accuracy check for the second hit; otherwise, the player will hit two zeroes. As a result, "half" of the player's DPS functions normally, while the other "half" is reduced due to needing to pass two accuracy checks. This is an intentional design[1] to push the weapon into a niche against targets with low Defence levels, and is also likely a thematic design given that the Moons of Peril check accuracy in the same way.

Bloodrager: The dual macuahuitl has a 33% chance to attack one tick earlier than usual upon a successful hit, allowing the player to attack again after 3 ticks. Both hits count towards this independently [1], meaning there is a 55% chance to trigger the effect if both hits are successful.

Blue moon (Magic/Melee)

A player activating the Blue moon set effect, Frostweaver.

50 Defence and 75 Magic are required to wear the armour. Also, 70 Attack and 75 Magic are required to wield the weapon. Blue moon is the hybrid melee/magic armour.

Frostweaver: After casting a bind spell, the blue moon spear has a 20% chance for its next melee attack to be unaffected by action delays.

Eclipse moon (Ranged/Melee)

A player activating the Eclipse moon set effect, Eclipse.

50 Defence and 75 Ranged are required to wear the armour, and 75 Ranged, 50 Attack, and 50 Strength are required to wield the weapon. Eclipse moon is the hybrid melee/ranged armour.

The eclipse atlatl, even alone, has unique mechanics. It can only use atlatl darts as ammunition, and uses the player's Strength stat and melee strength bonuses when determining the amount of ranged damage dealt to a target. Though the atlatl's damage output is based on visible boosts to the player's melee levels (ex. boosts from a super combat potion), ranged-boosting prayers such as Eagle Eye and Rigour are used instead of melee-boosting prayers. Additionally, it uses the melee bonuses from the slayer helmet and salve amulets (and variants), but gains increased damage from Void Knight equipment whilst wearing the void ranger helm rather than the void melee helm.

Eclipse: The eclipse atlatl has a 20% chance to inflict a burn effect on the targets. Whilst burnt, the target will be dealt 10 damage over the course of 40 ticks, or 24 seconds (1 damage every 4 ticks), and can be stacked up to five times.

Degrading and repairing

Moon equipment, except for the weapons, degrades as it is used. Equipment received from the Moons of Peril activity is fully repaired and can be used for 45 hours of combat until it degrades completely and requires repair before it can be used again. Moon armour degrades even if the player is using protection prayers or not taking damage. Moon equipment does not suffer in performance as it degrades, but will lose all stat bonuses when it becomes fully degraded. Additionally, Moon equipment may only be traded if fully repaired or fully degraded.

The status of each item consists of 3000 degradable points, and the item will become unusable until repaired at 0 points. A piece of Moon equipment will immediately degrade when the player enters combat, and deduct one more point from the total if the player is still in combat after 90 ticks (54 seconds) have passed.

There are two ways to repair Moon armour. Players can talk to any of the NPCs listed below and they will repair the items for a price, or players could repair the pieces themselves using an armour stand in any player-owned house. The equipment can be repaired at any stage, and the cost will be adjusted according to how much it has degraded. The base repair cost of an item is determined by its internal degradation state (out of 3,000), multiplied by 500 coins. Repairing all 3 pieces of a set will cost 4,500,000 coins with an NPC down to 2,160,000 coins with boosting at an armour stand.

The following NPCs can repair the armour:

It costs less to repair Moon equipment at an armour stand compared to paying an NPC. Stat boosts do affect the price of repair. The formula used to calculate the cost at a repair stand is:

A player with a Smithing level of 60, for instance, would pay 70% of normal cost:

Simply put, every 2 Smithing levels reduces the repair cost by 1% when compared to an NPC vendor. At level 99 this equals roughly 50% in savings.

Hourly Cost

1 Armour Piece 33,166.67 21,666.67 16,000.00
2 Armour Pieces 66,333.33 43,333.33 32,000.00
3 Armour Pieces 99,500.00 65,000.00 48,000.00

Fixed an issue where degraded Perilous Moon kit pieces in free-to-play would delete them.

Trivia

  • It is possible for the set effect of Moon equipment to activate even if one or all of the armour pieces are fully degraded, as long as the items are still equipped.
