Duplicates

Duplicates or "dupes" are items that players receive in quantities greater than what is necessary or useful. In many instances, a rare drop received from a boss or minigame is valuable, but receiving the same drop multiple times is not. For example, at Wintertodt, players may receive multiple pairs of warm gloves, but only have one pair of hands to put them on, so subsequent drops serve no purpose.
Surplus warm gloves can be traded to Ignisia for an extra supply crate or 50 burnt pages, and indeed many duplicate drops can be exchanged with NPCs, sold to shops, or used on special scenery objects for experience or more useful items.
The high alchemy spell can also be used to turn some surplus items into gold, though rare drops are often not alchemisable, or have relatively little gp value compared to the effort required to obtain them. Selling to general stores or the Grand Exchange is another option, but only for tradeable items.
Trade-ins
There are many locations where players may trade in duplicate drops for something more useful. Such exchanges mirror bad luck mitigation mechanics; rather than lessening the impact of a "dry" streak, these trades allow players to capitalise on their luck.
Some items can be destroyed anywhere using a right-click "Dismantle" option, or broken down using a tool, to extract resources.
Other
- Surplus metal equipment can be melted down to extract Smithing XP in the Giants' Foundry.
- Unstrung bows can be recycled to gain Fletching XP in Vale Totems.
- Currencies from minigames and activites can often be spent on consumable resources after obtaining the high-value, single-purpose rewards. For example, after obtaining the graceful outfit, excess marks of grace may be spent on amylase crystals to make stamina potions.
