Count Draynor Drakan[1] is a vampyre who lives in a coffin in the basement of Draynor Manor. He was part of House Drakan, being the younger brother of Lowerniel, Ranis and Vanescula Drakan.

He can be fought in the Nightmare Zone after the quest Vampyre Slayer is complete. A stake is not necessary to kill him in the Nightmare Zone, as he will automatically die upon reaching 0 health.

A player fights against Count Draynor.

History

Originally raised by his father Aramindus and an unknown mother alongside his siblings on the vampyre homeworld of Vampyrium, much of Draynor's history remains unknown. According to Vanescula, he liked to give himself various titles, but was considered to be cowardly by his siblings.[2] He was eventually exiled from Morytania by Lowerniel and ended up west of the River Salve with his servant Ruantun, which caused them to be significantly weakened.[3] At some point, he performed some experiments with the help of Ruantun, possibly involving ancient vampyric ceremonies.[4]

According to legends, he built Draynor Manor and began a "campaign of darkness", terrorizing the village that was named after him.[5] However, he has not been seen in generations,[6] as he has become too weak to leave the manor.[7] Some adventurers have attempted to kill him, but none have returned.[8]

During the Vampyre Slayer quest, Morgan, a citizen of Draynor Village, requests the adventurer slay Count Draynor as he is afraid that he may some day return and attack the village again. After getting some tips from former vampyre hunter Dr Harlow, the adventurer was able to successfully kill Draynor in his manor.

Strategy

The health recovery rate of Count Draynor is very high – about twenty times the rate of ordinary monsters. To balance his health regeneration, fighting him provides greatly reduced Combat experience. Garlic does not affect this health regeneration; rather, when the Count is at full health it deals 10 damage, reduces his attack and strength by 10 levels, and reduces his defence by 40 levels.[9] The garlic effect happens on auto-attack delay, so it will happen when using any melee combat but if using magic you must autocast spells with a staff to trigger it - manually casting spells will not work. Garlic will also increase all damage you deal by 1.[10] The effect of garlic will wear off after 30 seconds.

Count Draynor can be harmed with ordinary weapons, but cannot be killed by them. Once his health is low enough, players must drive a stake through his heart using a hammer in order to deal the final blow. If a player does not use the hammer and stake, he will heal to full health when his health points are low. Once the effect ends, low-level characters may struggle to surpass the high regeneration of the Count.

Due to Count Draynor's lack of magic defence, Wind Strike is quite effective, especially upon reaching level 13 Magic for maximum damage. If players decide to kill him with magic, players should be advised to not wear metal armour until they come in to use the stake for the kill as they have substantial negative magic accuracy. With full magic gear, a level 9 mage can kill him by bringing about 10 pieces of tuna, depending on luck.

Stat restoration

After being drained by the garlic, Count Draynor will restore both his hitpoints and drained levels at a rate of 1 point every 5 ticks.[11] If the player is in possession of a garlic, and has an attack queued up against him, a check will be made every tick whether or not his stats have been restored back to full again.

Assuming no other form of stat reduction is applied, the Count will restore his Attack back to full after 50 ticks, or 30 seconds. The garlic effect will then kick in again, reducing his Attack by 10 levels and printing the message: The vampyre seems to weaken. The same applies for his Strength stat, except that the aforementioned message is not displayed once his stats are drained anew.

Although garlic is programmed to reduce Count Draynor's Defence by 40 levels, he only has a baseline Defence level of 30, which is consequently reduced to zero. It will take 150 ticks (90 seconds) for his Defence to restore back to full, and the garlic effect to be reapplied. No message is printed when this occurs.

Should Count Draynor's health restore back to full over the course of the fight, the garlic will deal 10 damage to him again.

Trivia

  • Despite being a vampyre, he lacks many of their usual immunities and exhibits strange weaknesses not seen in others of his kind. This is a result of his passage across the River Salve — a boundary known to weaken or repel creatures of darkness.
  • The Count Draynor character is loosely based on Count Dracula from the 1897 horror novel Dracula.
  • He is the only real vampyre to appear in free-to-play worlds, as Count Check merely pretends to be one. Count Check also has the same model as him, but slightly recoloured.

    2. 30 secs for most of them, restoring by +1 every 5 server ticks, hence 50 ticks = 30 secs. Restoring the -40 Defence takes longer.
N.B. The debuff is actually being checked every time you try to attack him, even if your action delay means that an attack won't happen, i.e. every server tick.
    When the debuff is checked:
    - It will drain his Attack by -10 _if_ it's full, and will tell you "The vampyre seems to weaken."
    - It will drain his Strength by -10 _if_ it's full, silently.
    - It will drain his Defence by -40 _if_ it's full, silently.
    - It will drain his HP by -10 _if_ it's full, silently.
    So:
    - You're seeing the message every ~30 secs because that's how long it took his Attack stat to restore.
    - Defence takes 4x longer to restore, and it'll be drained again if it does restore before he dies, but there isn't an additional message to tell you about the progress.",

"(...) 1) Can I check if his passive regeneration also restores the drained stats by the garlic? 2) If it does, then how fast does he regenerate these stats back up again before the garlic reapplies its debuff in the next 30-second cycle?" (screenshot)
