Whirlpool surprise is a type of ale that temporarily boosts Cooking by 2 and Sailing by 3, while draining Agility by 2. Drinking a whirlpool surprise results in successive game messages stating You drink the rum cocktail. It tastes great! and You feel inspired to both cook and sail!.

Two can be claimed for free from Rum-dashed Ralph upon clearing the shark rank of the Tempor Tantrum Barracuda Trial, after which it becomes available for 300 coins each at the Pandemonium pub.

A keg of whirlpool surprise can be created by using 25 whirlpool surprises (either noted or unnoted, but not a mixture of both) on a keg built in a player's boat. Chartin' Charles McAtless notably does not offer to sell players 25 whirlpool suprise in noted form. As a result, Ultimate Ironmen must have 25 inventory spaces available to buy 25 ales from the Pandemonium pub to fill a keg with this ale.

Having this keg onboard grants an invisible +2 Sailing boost, as well as giving crewmates onboard a minimum of 2 Deckhandiness and 2 Helmsmanship.

Players can also freely obtain an infinite amount of whirlpool surprises by using a beer glass on it.

They are only sold after having claimed them from Rum-dashed Ralph after achieving Shark rank in The Tempor Tantrum.
