Struggling sapling is a group Forestry event where players must quickly collect and assemble the correct combination of mulch to save a Struggling sapling.

Overview

The goal of this event is for eligible players to work together, assembling mulch in the correct slot order before feeding the mulch to the struggling sapling. Upon feeding the sapling, players can earn Woodcutting and Farming experience as well as anima-infused bark that scales to the nutritional value of the mulch. However, not feeding the sapling back to 100% health in time will result in the sapling withering away and players being unable to collect bonus rewards. Players can prevent this by working together and communicating which slot order is 100% accurate before the time runs out. If the players are successful in bringing back the sapling to full health, players can earn bonus Woodcutting experience and anima bark, both depending on the average nutrition value of the individual player's mulch and their individual Woodcutting levels.

How to play

This event is 4 minutes long, regardless of how many players were eligible at the start of this event. During this event, several resource piles will appear (droppings, green leaves, rotting leaves, splintered bark, and wild mushrooms) that can be used to create mulch that helps the sapling grow. Players must collect from any resource piles three times to create mulch. The order in which they are collected determines the nutritional value of the mulch, and players can also make mulch from the same resource pile multiple times.

If the correct pile is in the correct slot, a message will appear saying that the sapling loves it, e.g., "The sapling seems to love [resource] as the [first/second/third] ingredient". By default, mulch has 10% nutritional value, and gains an additional 30% for each correct resource. The amount of Woodcutting and Farming experience, as well as anima bark, is scaled to the nutritional value of the mulch when feeding it to the sapling. Below is a table that shows both Woodcutting and Farming experience and anima bark with corresponding values. Note that the combination column is formatted as follows:

X - Wrong item

P - Correct ingredient, incorrect placement

O - Correct item and placement

Nutrition Value Combination Hitpoints Restored Anima-infused Bark Woodcutting Experience Farming Experience
100% OOO 60 11-12 190-220% of level 60-80% of level
70% XOO 42 6-7 100-120% of level 40-50% of level
60% OOP 36 5-6 80-100% of level 35-40% of level
50% XOP 30 4-5 60-80% of level 30-35% of level
40% XXO 24 3-4 50-60% of level 25-30% of level
30% XPP 18 2-3 40-50% of level 20-25% of level
20% XXP 12 1-2 20-40% of level 15-20% of level
10% XXX 6 1 10-20% of level 10-15% of level

Note that these values are without either the Lumberjack or Forestry outfit and without the invisible group boost. If a player has either set worn and chopped the same tree with other players, the Woodcutting experience may be higher by at least 1.025x the experience mentioned above.

The equations listed below are dependent on how many players were actively chopping the tree that spawned the event:

Each player contributes 900 hitpoints up to 9,000. This mechanic uses the invisible Woodcutting boost of up to 10 people, thus making the maximum hitpoints of the sapling at 9,000.

Rewards

Upon saving the sapling from withering, eligible players will receive a bonus amount of both anima bark and Woodcutting experience compared to that of during the event. Players earn bonus Woodcutting experience based on their overall nutrition value towards the sapling and their Woodcutting experience. However, players do not receive bonus Farming experience after the event. Below is the equation that models this behaviour:

Experience

Bonus Woodcutting experience where:

= Woodcutting level (if boosted)

= Average nutrition value accuracy * 100 (e.g., if a player only fed a sapling three times with 10% nutrition value, followed by 40% and then 70%, the average would be 40%, or 0.40)

Note that this bonus is without either the Lumberjack or Forestry outfit and without the invisible group boost.

Anima bark

Below is the table where the amount of anima bark is merely based on the average nutritional value of the mulch per iteration:

Average Nutritional Value Anima-infused Bark
70-100% 180-200
50-69% 140-180
40-49% 100-140
10-39% 60-100

Note that the amount of bark can increase slightly higher than the value in the table if there was more than one eligible player at the time of the event.
