A ranged-magic hybrid is a type of low level free-to-play combat pure account that focuses on Magic and Ranged combat styles.
Since melee attacks can be underwhelming in terms of damage early on and lack the extra range of the other combat styles, this build is often followed by pures in low level clans trained to fight in multicombat areas. These pures also tend to have relatively low Hitpoints levels, since Magic and Ranged can be reliably trained without getting Hitpoints experience, and melee combat skills can be neglected without an effect on the damage output.
Ranged-magic hybrids are also somewhat viable in 1-vs-1 combat in the very first combat level brackets where combat spells can still outdamage melee weapons.
Skills
Ranged-magic pures train Ranged and
Magic without restriction. To optimise the combat skills on any given combat level, both Ranged and Magic should be trained to an equal level.

Due to their lack of magic accuracy penalties, using the leather chaps or the zamorak monk bottoms at all times might be preferable to the studded chaps and the green d'hide chaps. However, studded and dragonhide chaps are still worth consideration for their notable ranged accuracy and magic defence bonuses.
While the green d'hide vambraces provide the best bonuses for ranged combat, their magic accuracy penalty makes them less convenient to use than the leather vambraces. Similarly, the amulet of magic provides the best magic accuracy boost, but the amulet of power has better overall bonuses for hybriding and is used more often.
With 30 Attack and Magic, the Bryophyta's staff can be used over elemental staves as a magic weapon switch to maximise the magic accuracy bonus. However, it is rather expensive and should be used with caution within dangerous PvP activities, especially without the Protect Item prayer.
Training
Magic should be trained via methods that prevent from getting Hitpoints experience to minimise the combat level. These methods include splashing, curses, teleporting, enchanting jewellery and alchemy.
Ranged can be trained in the members worlds with methods such as cannoning to prevent from gaining additional Hitpoints experience. Otherwise, standard Ranged training methods apply.
Combat style
1-vs-1 combat
Ranged-magic hybrids can use their rapid ranged attacks to wear the opponents down and the best available tier of a combat spell to knock them out. While not as effective or difficult to heal against as ranged-to-melee combo in general, this combination can be deadly in the early combat level brackets where Magic can still outdamage other combat styles.
These pures become less and less relevant in 1-vs-1 combat as melee quickly catches up to Magic and becomes the primary style of the knockout attacks. With a max hit of 16 after unlocking the Fire Blast at 59 level, Magic lacks the damage progression in higher combat level brackets
Eventually, even the regular ranged attacks with a maple shortbow and adamant arrows can deal over 16 damage with a single hit at a much faster attack rate, making combat spells and this build in particular entirely obsolete for duels.
These pures are commonly used in free-to-play clan wars in low level combat brackets.
Early on, Magic attacks have higher maximum hits and a notably longer range of 10 tiles. Due to their high damage potential, they allow to stack more damage in short periods of time in multi-combat areas when multiple clan members focus on a single opponent, and are excellent for hit-and-run tactics. Binding spells such as Bind and Snare are also extremely useful, as they allow to break formations of the opposing teams and separate opponents from their clans.
Ranged attacks are faster and more accurate in general, although they have a shorter attack range. While this is not always true on lower combat levels or against armoured opponents, ranged attacks offer higher damage-per-second rates as a rule of thumb.
Variants
Prayer
Some pures choose to train Prayer to access the protection prayers and boosts such as the Eagle Eye at 44.
Progression
Ranged-magic hybrids are often converted to ranged-melee hybrids when they reach higher combat level brackets as melee attacks become more and more relevant, and magic attacks lack the damage progression to remain a primary combat style. Magic remains a useful support skill with access to spells like Snare or Tele Block, but ranged and melee become the primary damage dealing combat styles later on.
