Jim's wet cloth is an item obtainable from Jim the imp on the lower floor of the Chasm of Fire in the infernal shale resource area. Using the wipe option of the cloth will start an animation where the character wipes their forehead with the cloth.

3-tick infernal shale mining in the infernal shale resource area in the Chasm of Fire as shown in the update Yama, the Master of Pacts: Out Today

By using a specific tick manipulation rhythm (as shown in the video to the left/above), infernal shale rocks can be mined much more efficiently. The character will wipe their forehead then mine the rock after a 1 tick (0.6s) delay as indicated by a different mining animation. An example of the rhythm would be:

  • 1st tick: click cloth,
  • 2nd tick: move to rock,
  • 3rd tick: click rock.

If while attempting to perform tick manipulation, the player clicks on the rock too soon, the player will receive the message You can't swing a pickaxe whilst wiping your forehead!

When leaving the infernal shale resource area, the cloth will disappear with a message stating The imp takes back his cloth, as per your contract.

Using the wipe option will allow you to mine infernal shale rocks without a pickaxe. The mining animation shows a bronze pickaxe.

(Update)
  • The wet cloth can no longer be used to bypass the Mining requirement of the infernal shale.
  • Players can no longer bank the wet cloth using an imp-in-a-box.
  • The cloth can no longer be banked, though any cloths already in the bank or in Death's Office were not removed.

Trivia

  • The cloth is a play on the slang term "sweaty" that is used across video game culture to describe overly competitive or high-intensity gameplay. In Old School RuneScape, tick manipulation is generally considered to be a "sweatier" alternative to standard gameplay.
    • Despite this, the cloth is less click intensive than actual tick manipulation when moving is involved, such as double-roll 3t granite.
  • Jim's wet cloth shares its model with the Holy table napkin.
  • It is possible to smuggle it out of the area by crossing the fire, dropping the cloth, walking one tile west, performing either the Zombie Hand or Trick emote, and quickly taking the cloth. Note that this only allows playing the head wipe animation; the tick manipulation ability of the cloth does not function outside of the Chasm.
