Infernal plates are used to create pieces of oathplate armour. They are smithed using an infernal chunk, requiring 83 Smithing.
In total, 2,520 crushed infernal shale must be combined with 450 oathplate shards to make 9 infernal plates in order to smith any individual piece of oathplate armour.

Steps
---
1. Mine infernal shale and crush it using a hammer and chisel.
2. Smelt an infernal blend with 5 oathplate shards and 28 crushed infernal shale.
3. Quench the infernal blend in the pool of ichor, turning it into an infernal nugget.
4. Smelt 10 infernal nuggets together into an infernal chunk.
5. Hammer the infernal chunk into an infernal plate using the instructions below.
- Click on the anvil with a chunk in your inventory to start smithing it into a plate.
- An orange bar will appear above the anvil, clicking on the anvil again will cause your character to hit the chunk, lowering the bar by 1 "portion". The full bar is made of 8 portions.
- After a hit (specifically, after the 1 smithing xp drop appears) you can click again to continue the process. The first hit animation is longer, if the anvil is clicked right after an xp drop, the next hit will happen much faster. (This is not required, you can simply wait for the hitting animation to fully end and then click again, as failing to time the hit too late does not reset the orange bar. However, doing it this way will make the creation process much slower).
- Attempting to click the anvil again before the current animation is finished will mess the process, resetting the bar.
- Attempting to click the anvil while the bar is empty (even at the correct timing) will also reset the bar.
- Once the bar is empty, after a short wait (1 tick), it will refill, at which point the anvil can be clicked again to continue the process.
- The orange bar will refill with different amounts in the following order:
- first 2 bars - full (8 hits)
- 2 bars afterwards - almost full (7 hits)
- then 4 half bars - 4 hits each
- and then another 2 full bars - 8 hits each
- Once the last bar is empty, the chunk will turn into a plate, and the 1,250 xp drop will be received.
- Failing during a specific bar will only reset that point - you do not lose progress on bars you've already passed.
- It is not possible to "destroy" the chunk by failing too much, nor does it cool down and requires to be re-heated.
- Once 9 plates are collected, they can be used on the anvil to create one of the parts of the Oathplate set. Once selected, an animation will play of your character working on the armour, this is purely visual, once you have the plates, there is no more work to be done, and the chosen part is simply created from the plates.
If you mess up on your current bar: getting bar to zero will actually cause it to fail instead of completing (even with correct timing). Instead players should stop one hit before an empty bar and their character will finish it automatically. After this all bars will work normally as long as the bar doesn't reset.
