The Slagilith is an enemy encountered during the One Small Favour quest, inside the Goblin Cave. It is summoned when attempting to free Petra Fiyed from the rock face; the player fails to properly cast the spell contained within their scroll, thus accidentally animating some rocks nearby.

The Slagilith attacks within melee range and can hit up to 13 damage, so Protect from Melee is advised, although it is quite inaccurate. In addition, it has fairly high melee defence bonuses and will reduce your damage by 67% if a pickaxe is not equipped. [1] Combat spells will deal full damage as to Slagilith as long as a pickaxe is equipped, and Slagilith additionally has lower Magic defence. The damage reduction may also be circumvented for Ranged by unequipping your weapon after firing and equipping the pickaxe before your attack hits, though Slagilith has higher Ranged defence.

Rings of recoil are effective in speeding up the kill for low levels; a pickaxe must be equipped for this to work. The two rock piles nearby can be used as safespots for mage attacks, ranging or flinching, by trapping Slagilith off melee range. Equipping a pickaxe before ranged or magic attacks hit will allow them to do full damage.

The Slagilith will disappear within 5 minutes after it is summoned.

High-levelled players should not have any problem dispatching this monster by using their highest level pickaxe and gear.

When defeated during the quest, it will drop an adamantite ore, an uncut diamond and an uncut ruby. It cannot be defeated again after the quest outside of the Nightmare Zone, where it will not drop anything.

Hacking away at the slagilith.

(Update)

Slagilith now has a 40% Earth weakness.

Trivia

  • The name seems to be a portmanteau of "Slag", a byproduct after removing the desired mineral from ore, and the suffix "-lith" from "lithos" meaning stone in Greek.
  • The word Slagilith was censored in chat, because "slag" is also a derogatory term for a woman who sleeps around.
  • An update temporarily left Slagilith unable to despawn straight away upon leaving the cave, due to an off-by-one error in an optimisation for caching server-side game scripts.[2]

Mod Nin: "An optimisation to how server-side game scripts are cached had an off-by-one error (a < rather than <=). It broke two scripts: one related to this ladder, and one that we don't think anyone would ever find, notice, or have any impact before next week's update. [Is it safe to say what the other ladder was now?] Hah sure! It wasn't a ladder - it was a script that despawns the Slagalith when you leave the boss area (but the boss despawns on its own after a while anyway)."
