Purging staff from Last Man Standing is a minigame-exclusive variant of the normal Purging staff. It can be obtained from opening the chests with a bloody key, or looting the crates that spawn at random locations on the map. It is dropped on death to whoever killed you.

Passive effects

The staff has a passive effect which doubles the base accuracy bonus of demonbane spells from 20% to 40%. If under the effects of the Mark of Darkness spell, the staff further doubles the accuracy and damage bonus, giving an 80% accuracy and 50% damage bonus. With the staff's base magic damage bonus of 10%, this makes it one of the best weapons to use against demonic creatures.

Additionally, the staff also multiplies the duration of the Mark of Darkness spell by five times. Switching weapons afterward will not reduce the duration back to normal, nor will it remove the Mark of Darkness.

Special attack

The purging staff has a special attack, Scatter ashes, which drains 25% of the player's special attack energy and requires being on the Arceuus spellbook.

Scatter ashes uses the best demonbane spell the player can cast; if the demonic creature targeted dies from Scatter ashes, the special attack energy used is refunded, and the player's next attack can be used three ticks earlier.

In practice, using Scatter ashes to kill a target will effectively change the player's attack speed from 5 down to 3. This is because the 3 tick reduction is processed too late for the player to attack 2 ticks later. Scatter ashes is truly reducing attack delay by 3 though - this can be shown by using Scatter ashes and then eating a piece of food, which will increase attack delay by 3. In this case, the player will be able to attack again after 5 ticks, instead of the expected 3+3=6 ticks later.
