King Shayzien VII

King Shayzien VII, previously Lord Rickard Shazyien, ruled Great Kourend from the 33rd to 37th decade. He wrote a journal that plays a role in the A Kingdom Divided quest. His reign was defined by violence.[1]
Before he was king, he was the ruler of Shayzien. Under the rule of King Shayzien V, he recommended in the Armed Forces Report that the king invest greatly in expanding the Shayzien Army with three new regiments: the Elder Warriors, the Twisted Archers, and the Kodai Mages. These regiments would report directly to a general, and each general would report directly to Lord Rickard Shayzien.
Over 1,000 years ago,[2] he sent an expedition to Mount Quidamortem, with a party led by Magnus Rimor. The party never returned and was declared to have perished.[3][4] In reality, the expedition was a success, but he had the expedition team imprisoned and/or killed to cover it up. During his reign, he was obsessed with the Dark Altar, and had spent a large majority of his time in the Tower of Magic performing experiments on citizens he summoned. Here, he oversaw the construction of various new sections, such as a prison, presumably to conduct magical experiments.[5]
He was eventually killed by his own Elder Warriors[6] in the Battle of the Concourse five decades later, and his body was never recovered.[7] A few days after the battle, Xeric appeared and was said to have had a similar appearance to Shayzien VII.[8] This battle is also documented in Killing of a king, a text found in the Arceuus Library, where it is written that a coup d'état was attempted by his Elder Warriors, who successfully killed him.
Some have speculated that King Shayzien's extensive knowledge of the Dark Altar allowed him to move his spirit from his mortal body to an incorporeal one after his death,[9] where he would adopt a new name — Xeric.
