Lord Iestin Edern Iorwerth, formerly known as just Iestin Edern, is a scholar from the Iorwerth Clan, and as of the conclusion of Song of the Elves the new leader of the Iorwerth Clan. He is the older brother of the deceased mourner Nissyen Edern, who mentioned him in his journal, as well as a close relative of Lord Iorwerth.
Like many of the Iorwerth Clan, he sided with the former Lord Iorwerth in the Elven Civil War, thinking that the elven king Baxtorian had abandoned the city of Prifddinas in his pursuit of establishing a kingdom in the east, leaving chaos behind in the elven capital.
By the Fifth Age, Iestin had become an advisor and the head of research for Lord Iorwerth, doing research on the Grand Library, which was lost, when Prifddinas was reverted into a seed. He also advised Lord Iorwerth, but over time Lord Iorwerth began to listen more to the advice given by Essylt. After Iestin learnt of his brother's death in Lord Iorwerth's search for the Temple of Light as part of the notorious Death Guard, Iestin became disillusioned, realising that Lord Iorwerth needed to be stopped before it was too late.
By the Song of the Elves Iestin had become an informant to the rebel elf Ysgawyn, and is first met by the player, when they track down Ysgawyn believing him to be a traitor to the elves of Lletya. Ysgawyn explained that Iestin had been giving him valuable information about the Iorwerth Clan, including allowing the player to retrieve the orb of light, but it had been carried out it utmost secrecy to ensure Iestin's safety. Iestin however explained that Lletya's location had been given to Lord Iorwerth by a traitor, and by the time they reached Lletya, it was already under attack. After Lord Iorwerth called off the attack, having reclaimed the orb of light from Baxtorian, Iestin decided to stick by his decision and remain with the rebels, now that Lord Iorwerth knew of his betrayal.
With Lord Iorwerth and the Dark Lord's subsequent defeat, Iestin was chosen as the next leader of Clan Iorwerth, as he was among the closest living relatives to the former Lord Iorwerth, Iestin also believing it was the best decision as Morvran, who was closer to Lord Iorwerth, would have been the next successor - and Iestin believed it was better, that he himself assumed the position in order to make the other clans less uncomfortable and distrustful of the Iorwerth Clan and hopefully over time restore their relations with the other clans.
