Snow is recurring interactable scenery that appears every Christmas event. It can also be created by using an equipped reindeer hat's prance option or the snow globe's snow option. Players can collect snowballs from snow.
There was no permanent interactable snow during the 2022 Christmas event. In the past:
- Three snow piles were by Falador west bank for the 2021 Christmas event.
Technical details
After operating a reindeer hat or snow globe, it takes 7 ticks for snow to appear on the ground; it will appear wherever the player is now standing after the 7-tick delay. After appearing, the snow lasts for 24 ticks before disappearing.
Snow is collected in batches of 3 snowballs at a time. After beginning to collect, it takes 2 ticks to receive the first batch, then 4 ticks for each batch thereafter. For this reason, snow is useful as a free-to-play method of tick manipulation.
Players can only have one pile of snow active in any 8x8 map zone at a time, but players can create snow in multiple zones at once (for example, by standing at the intersection of two zones, and making a pile of snow in each zone).
There must be a single tick of no snow in a zone before a new one can be made. Therefore, to create a new pile of snow as fast as possible within the same zone, the reindeer hat or snow globe has to be operated during the 18th tick that the snow is active on the ground; this can be done on a rhythm of operating the snow globe or reindeer hat once every 25 ticks, or equivalently, once after collecting 4 batches of snowballs if one is collecting from their own pile.
Prohibited areas
Snow cannot fall on the ground at the following locations:
- Soul Wars - in waiting area and in-game
- The Adventurous - bottom level of the ship while docked in Mos Le'Harmless
- Isafdar - various spike traps
- Blackhole - Thordur's blackhole only
- Basement of Doom - while spectating your cat through a curtain
- On Fairy rings or Portal (Puro-Puro)
- Any tile which already has scenery on it or scenery that spawns on it (e.g. cabbage, potato or wheat fields)
