The Myreque quest series is a quest series that focuses on the underground resistance group in vampyre-controlled parts of Morytania. This group, known as the Myreque, is hunted by enemies such as the evil Vanstrom Klause at every turn, forcing players to regularly fight against attackers while trying to complete the quests.
The series is popular in both versions of RuneScape, although each diverge in their storyline following Darkness of Hallowvale. Despite these differences, the characters and general plot remain largely the same.

Storyline
The storyline of the Myreque quest series is based on the lore of the three quests in the series that existed prior to the 2007 backup that Old School RuneScape was built off of. The plot for the original three quests is shared in both games, but the storylines diverge following Darkness of Hallowvale.
Original storyline
In Search of The Myreque
The series is set in Morytania, a dreary swampland controlled by tyrannic vampyres. The land lies east of the River Salve, a holy river which was blessed by priests to prevent Morytania's monsters from crossing over. The story begins in a small town near the river, where a man named Vanstrom Klause asks an adventurer to bring some weapons to a group of rebels. The adventurer sets out in search of the group, known as the Myreque, but after finding the base, the adventurer realises they made a terrible mistake: Vanstrom is actually a vampyre himself, and the adventurer has led him right to the resistance! Vanstrom kills several of the resistance members and then departs, leaving a massive skeletal beast to finish off the rest. After defeating the beast and speaking with group-leader Veliaf Hurtz, the adventurer resolves to help the cause.
In Aid of the Myreque
The adventurer sets out to help establish a new base for the Myreque. After heading south, they reach the crumbling coastal town of Burgh de Rott and help repair it. However, Vanstrom's lackey Gadderanks notices the smoke from their newly-lit furnace, and heads to Burgh de Rott to collect blood tithes from the town's residents. Clearly, the Myreque need to be able to fight the vampyres, not just flee them. Hoping to uncover the secrets of an ancient vampyre-killing weapon, the adventurer escorts the pious young resistance-member Ivan Strom through the swamp, and into a temple that sits over the holy river. The temple's keeper, Drezel, helps the adventurer learn how to create the powerful silver weapon known as the rod of Ivandis.
Darkness of Hallowvale
Armed with a new weapon, the resistance seeks a path into the Sanguinesti region. The region is segregated into two vastly different areas: an opulent section for vampyres called Darkmeyer, and a dilapidated ghetto for humans known as Meiyerditch. After arriving in Meiyerditch by boat, the adventurer is able to make contact with other Myreque members there. Unfortunately, it was not just the humans making progress on their goals: upon returning to the temple, the adventurer learns with horror that the holy river blocking off Morytania was somehow breached by a pair of werewolves. Despite this looming threat, the king of a large settlement just west of the river is advised not to commit to a military attack, leaving the Myreque on their own.
The adventurer returns to the headquarters of the Myreque in Meiyerditch, and assists their leader Safalaan Hallow in mapping out the castle of the vampyre royalties. However, they are once again caught by Vanstrom, who attacks ruthlessly. The beating continues until the adventurer is saved by Sarius Guile, the human servant of vampyre noble Vanescula Drakan. The servant instructs the adventurer to bring a message from Vanescula to the leader of the Myreque, while also cryptically directing the adventurer to the house of her father. In this house, the adventurer uncovers directions to a hidden laboratory, which seems to contain information the Myreque could use in the fight against the vampyres; following this discovery, the Myreque welcome the adventurer into their ranks. However, the question of why Vanescula is trying to contact the leader of the resistance remains yet unanswered.
Old School storyline
A Taste of Hope
In the courtyard of a castle next to Meiyerditch, the adventurer runs into a human named Garth. Curiously, Garth is not being stopped by vampyres or tithed for blood; as he explains, this is because there is an arena under the castle known as the Theatre of Blood, in which any human may attempt to earn their freedom. He then shares the story of Serafina, the only human to ever survive the theatre. As he's doing so, the player notices Vanstrom Klause and another noble, Ranis Drakan, enter the theatre. After eavesdropping, the player learns that a creature is being sent out to find the surviving Myreque! The adventurer hurries to warn the resistance, who decide to leave Meiyerditch and plan their rebellion from across the River Salve.
Before leaving, the adventurer talks to the Myreque's translator, who was able to decode some of the literature found in the aforementioned laboratory. The laboratory, they learn, was created due to a blood shortage facing the vampyres, who have multiplied much faster than the humans. The adventurer then seeks out the house of Serafina, recalling that she "found the vampyres' weakness," but comes out with nothing but some notes in the vampyric language. When the adventurer returns to the hideout to have the translator decode those as well, they realise that they have once again fallen for a trap; the notes are gibberish, placed there by the vampyres so that the player would return to the base, leading the creature there. All but three members of the Meiyerditch Myreque are killed in the ambush, and after slaying the beast alongside the adventurer, the survivors flee.
Enraged by the death of their companions, the survivors decide to mount a counter-attack. Using the translator's notes, they learn that the vampyres are resistant to most attacks due to being able to predict them. The counterweight to this strength, then, is an unpredictable weapon, such as a flail. Combining the flail with the weapon discovered previously, the adventurer then creates the Ivandis flail. Shortly after, Ranis Drakan announces to the people of Meiyerditch that the Myreque have been defeated, believing they fell at the hands of the creature. Taking advantage of his lowered defences, the adventurer uses the flail to defeat him, emboldening the people of Meiyerditch and giving them a taste of hope.
