The Sanguinesti region is a large area found in south-east Morytania. It consists of two cities, Darkmeyer and Meiyerditch, which merge together to form a conurbation.[1] Darkmeyer is located to the north of the region and is the only known Vampyric settlement on Gielinor. In the south is Meiyerditch, a sprawling ghetto which houses the area's human population. At the southern end of Meiyerditch is Ver Sinhaza, a theatre owned by Verzik Vitur.

The Sanguinesti region is ruled by Lord Drakan and his family. The Vampyre juveniles are used as guards, and the Vyrewatch as a blood-harvesting police force, who also keep the populace under control. The humans in Meiyerditch are treated as serfs, regularly being drained of their blood supply and being forced to serve their Vampyric masters.

The area is separated from the remainder of Morytania by a large wall which acts to enclose the human populace of Meiyerditch from escape and to separate the two races from each other, thus effectively protecting the Vampyres of Darkmeyer. The wall extends around Meiyerditch - where regular patrols of Vyrewatch roam - and stretches between Darkmeyer and Meiyerditch. The wall surrounds Castle Drakan and its adjoining Darkmeyer, where it is heavily reinforced, and which players can unlock access to after the Sins of the Father quest.

History

The following lore is sourced from the A Taste of Hope, Sins of the Father, Darkness of Hallowvale, Histories of the Hallowland, and Modern day morytania.

The Sanguinesti region was previously the location of the capitol of the Saradominist kingdom of Hallowvale, ruled by the Icyene queen Queen Efaritay from her castle in what is now Ver Sinhaza. The region was conquered by Lord Drakan during the God Wars, where it was then converted into a blood farm and slum.

Trivia

  • "Sanguinesti", from the Latin word sanguis and the Romanian suffix -ești, means "blood city".
