The Hunting knife is obtained as a reward from the 2016 Halloween event, as well as subsequent Halloween events. Running while having the knife equipped uses a different animation. It is considered a fun weapon.

Its -100 Strength bonus makes it the weakest weapon melee weapon in the game, tied with the cursed goblin hammer, carrot sword, and nutcracker staff. If the user's Strength bonus is -64 or less, it will never deal damage.

When wielded, a "Slash" option will appear on other players. Picking this option will cause the player to hit the other player. Similarly to the rubber chicken, the hit is just an animation and no damage is dealt, nor does it count as entering combat. You also have a chance to miss with the knife and have it drop to the floor, and the message You drop your hunting knife on the floor! will appear in the chatbox.

If destroyed, a replacement can be obtained from Diango in Draynor Village or from the toy box of a costume room, as part of the 2016: Masked Killer set. Ultimate Ironmen will be unable to retrieve individual pieces until the full set is stored.

• The equip option is disabled during the month of June to mitigate abuse at community-run Pride events, with the message You can't equip this item at this time. appearing if attempted.
  • If the item was equipped when the player logs in, it is moved to the inventory with the message An item has been unequipped because you can no longer equip it: Hunting knife.
  • If the item was equipped and the player's inventory is full, it is moved to the bank with the message An item has been banked because you can no longer equip it: Hunting knife.
  • This is the same mechanism as used for the quest point cape when new quests are released. As such, the knife will be destroyed if both the player's inventory and bank are full when the game forcefully unequips it.
