The granite body is the most commonly used piece of the granite armour set, being similar in price to the rune platebody while providing better defensive bonuses. While the granite helm and granite boots similarly outclass their rune counterparts, the latter is significantly more expensive and the former competes with the more common Fremennik helmets.
Even though it is seen as low-level armour, the granite body has slightly higher defensive bonuses than the Fighter torso, except the slash defence, which is 1 lower. However, the granite body's lack of a strength bonus means the fighter torso is more commonly used for slayer tasks and general melee training, where maximizing one's damage output outweighs defensive bonuses. Compared to the dragon chainbody, the granite body provides better range defence and stab defence but is weaker by 9 and 19 points in slash and crush respectively. The granite body does not interfere with Ava's devices, this combined with its modest ranged penalty can make it a decent choice for Range Tank in PvM.
Purchasing and equipping a granite body is a requirement for the hard Kandarin diary. It must be purchased from Commander Connad to meet the requirement for the task, requiring the player kill the Penance Queen at least once.
