The Chaos Temple is a temple of Zamorak located around level 11 Wilderness, north of Varrock. The entire building is near-completely surrounded by molten lava which frequently ejects flaming rocks that do minor damage to anyone nearby where they land. The area is also multi-combat, and contains many elder chaos druids who will teleblock any players who get too close.
The pattern on the floor hints that the temple may once have been dedicated to Zaros, which is plausible given that many of his fortresses and outposts in the Second Age were in what is now the Wilderness, and were destroyed and/or aligned to different gods during and after the God Wars.
Players will receive the following message the first time they enter the Chaos Temple each day:
Transportation
- Burning amulet teleport to the north entrance in level 15 Wilderness.
- Ring of dueling teleport to Ferox Enclave, and run east.
- Run north from Varrock or north-east from the Grand Exchange, crossing the wilderness ditch.
Features
Free-to-play
In free-to-play, there are no monsters present in the temple, so the only features available to free players are the bone spawns which can be picked up and buried to train Prayer, and a chaos altar which can be prayed at to restore Prayer.
Members
The temple itself becomes significantly more dangerous in members' worlds, as it is populated by numerous elder chaos druids that can deal hefty damage, cast teleblock to players, and frequently teleport players to them, making escape difficult if multiple druids are attacking a player. Many zombie pirates also spawn around the temple, frequently engaging in combat with the druids.
The zombie pirates can be killed for lucrative drops, including teleport anchoring scrolls which can be used to stop the elder chaos druids from teleporting you, and zombie pirate keys, which can be used to open the Zombie Pirate's Lockers located in Pyre Cove to the east of the temple.
Simon, a cape merchant, can usually be found in or near the temple selling team capes 9, 19, 29, 39, and 49 with the teardrop pattern.
A hunting location with black salamanders can be found north-east of the temple.
