The eastern ruins, commonly referred to simply as the ruins or sometimes the farm, are the remains of a village in the eastern Wilderness. They lie a single-way combat area in between level 26 to 29 Wilderness.
Transportation
Unlike many remains found within the Wilderness, these ruins cannot be reached by using Ancient Magicks teleportation. There are several transport options that place players near the ruins, however, listed here in order of least to greatest distance away:
Games necklace — Corporeal Beast, slightly south-east of the cave.
Carrallanger Teleport — Graveyard of Shadows, directly south of the ruins.
Hunter cape — the hill just north of the ruins.
Canoe — the pond slightly north of the ruins.
Ring of dueling — Ferox Enclave, south of the ruins.
Revenant cave teleport — Revenant Caves, fairly north-west of the ruins.
Burning amulet — the King Black Dragon lair, well north-west of the ruins.
The Wilderness Obelisk teleports to level 13, 19, and 35 Wilderness brings players a medium walk away.
History
The ruins' history is largely unknown. There are animal food troughs, crates, sacks, an ore, and a furnace, which all suggest that the area may have once served agricultural and industrial purposes. The lack of a teleport on the Ancient spellbook indicates that they cannot be reliably traced back to the Zarosian Empire.
Continuity
Despite the lack of in-game lore in Old School labeling the ruins as a farm, the animal pen indicates that it may well have been a farm at some point. However, the name of "farm" is purely a carry-over from RuneScape 3, where the Spirit of Summer quest takes place at a former farm. In the quest, it was not a village as stated by Jagex, but in fact a family farm from the late Fourth Age whose inhabitants were murdered by unknown assailants. Their souls were then fed on by the Spirit Beast before being eventually freed.
Locations
The main feature of the ruins is the web chasm dungeon in the north-east corner. Inside is a singles-plus combat zone, where players can fight the spider boss Spindel, a weaker version of Venenatis. There are also several buildings (or what's left of them) in the confines of the ruins.
The western building has a furnace, which mysteriously still operates. Here players can smelt ores, making it an option for those using the Hobgoblin Mine to the far north.
The central building also has a working sink which can be used to fill buckets with water, as well as two beds, indicating that the ruins are still used by some wanderers as cover.
-
A two-story building in the north of the ruins, possibly a former temple or church.
-
The long-abandoned animal pen, indicating livestock were kept here at one point.
-
The remains of an ancient beast, possible predating the creation of the village due to their discoloration.

Trivia
- The ruins were a members-only area for over 2 months, until 8 May 2002.
- A newspost calls this area the "overgrown village" shortly after its release, because the ruins were overrun with red vines in RuneScape Classic. Other names from Classic are the "Grey Wolf Ruins," which was the name of the ruins on the map.
- The northernmost building has an inaccessible second floor, which is the only structure in the Wilderness that still uses the old wall textures from before the 2006 Wilderness graphical update.
- This building is propped up by pillars which are the same as those found in runic altars, and even include the examine "A part of an old temple."
- The furnace was originally on the eastern side of the ruins, although this was later changed.
