The Zalcano shard is an item dropped by Zalcano. It can be used on the dragon pickaxe to create the dragon pickaxe (or), which alters its appearance. It is solely a cosmetic upgrade and does not change the stats.

The shard is the second cosmetic add-on for the dragon pickaxe, after the dragon pickaxe upgrade kit. However, unlike the upgrade kit, it will not be destroyed should players revert the dragon pickaxe to its regular appearance.

The Zalcano shard is rolled independently for each player that is eligible to receive a unique drop, by contributing a combined 31 shield or health damage to the kill. If the player is eligible to receive a unique drop, the drop rate for the Zalcano shard will scale with one's contribution, according to the following formula:

Where is the contribution points awarded to the player, is damage to hitpoints, and is damage to shield. If the player has contributed the maximum of 400 hitpoints damage and 300 shield damage, and is therefore awarded 1,000 contribution points, the drop rate for the Zalcano shard becomes 1/750. A drop rate of 1/1,500 is achieved by only contributing the bare minimum to become eligible for a unique drop.^[1]
