The tattered journal is found next to a dead vampyre during the quest The Blood Moon Rises. It was written by a member of House Shadum who was left on Vampyrium when the Stranger from Afar led the vampyres to Gielinor.

My skin hurts. The sunlight stings. Cooked flesh is too dry. What changed? How long has it been since I dined as a member of my House? How long since I was left behind?
I no longer dine. I hunt. I kill. I survive. But within these moments of scarcity and hunger my senses come alive. Ancient instincts boil to the surface and command my body to action. A part of me rejects this savagery. The part that insists in writing this journal. But another revels in it. It matters not which I wish to follow, only one will allow me to endure.
