Blue dragons can be assigned as a Slayer task at level 65 combat by mid- and high-level Slayer masters after starting Dragon Slayer I. They can be found in various caves across Gielinor, with most of them having some requirement to access, such as completion of quests, a dusty key, or level 70 Agility.

Blue dragons attack using melee, as well as dragonfire, for which some form of dragonfire protection should be considered. Additionally, brutal blue dragons can also attack with magic. Due to their large size, blue dragons can usually be safespotted with ranged, magic, or halberd-like weapons. Like all dragons, they are also susceptible to dragonbane weapons.

When assigned a general task of blue dragons, players who seek a fast task are recommended to bring a dwarf multicannon to Taverley Dungeon, using it against the baby blue dragons in the main dungeon, as the task-only area is full of adults. Players who want slightly more profit are recommended to kill the adult dragons. If players want the maximum profit from the task, it is highly recommended to complete Dragon Slayer II in order to access Vorkath, who has very consistent and valuable commons.

If assigned as a task by Konar quo Maten, it is recommended to skip all tasks that send the player to the Ogre Enclave, Catacombs of Kourend, or Ruins of Tapoyauik. The dragons in the enclave are very far apart, while the latter two prevent the use of a cannon. It is acceptable if she sends the player to the Isle of Souls Dungeon, as a cannon can be placed there, but the room is filled with both adults and babies.
