The rat pole is a two-handed weapon that players obtain during the Ratcatchers quest. Players who lose their rat pole can obtain a new empty one by talking to Phingspet and Grimesquit.

Players can attach up to six dead rats to the pole. To attach a rat, the player must first be wielding the pole, and not just have it in their inventory. The player must use their cat to catch rats. When the cat catches a rat, the player has the option to put the rat on the pole. An adult cat or wily cat is recommended for this, as they have a much better success rate than kittens. The rat pole is ineffective as a weapon, serving mostly as a cosmetic item.
