The Kualti are the elite guard of Queen Zyanyi Arkan, the current ruler of Varlamore. Their sole purpose is to protect the Queen, and nothing else.^[1] Their headquarters is located in Civitas illa Fortis, adjacent to the royal palace. During A Kingdom Divided, they accompany Queen Zyanyi to attend the coronation ceremony in Great Kourend.

To become one of the Kualti requires having served many years in the kingdom's army and rigorous training as a knight of the kingdom.^[2] Upon completing their training, the Kualti-to-be would be initiated into the ranks of the Kualti in an initiation ceremony.

The Kualti initiation ceremony is performed by Varlamore's High Priest, who would hand over the dagger of the Kualti-to-be's predecessor, which signified their place as one of the Kualti.^[3] Each dagger is unique to one of the Kualti, and the Grand Museum of Civitas illa Fortis contains a section where they are displayed, where rows and rows of them are arranged by the ruler under which their owner served.

• The word "Kualti" means "to feed" in Nahuatl, a language/group of languages of the Uto-Aztecan language family. This can be interpreted that they are important fodder to protect their Queen, which is their sole duty.
• In the story A Kingdom United, there is a Kualti wielding a hasta named Yorah. They may be the same hasta-wielding Kualti that appears ingame. They are also only referred to with they/them pronouns, suggesting they may be non-binary.
