The Overseer is a parasitic organism residing in the Abyssal Nexus that serves to inform the player about the area. Behind it is the Font of Consumption, where players can place unsired in exchange for valuable items, such as abyssal daggers and pieces of the abyssal bludgeon.

It asks the player to bring it the pieces of defeated Abyssal Sires to create a weapon in return. The parts can be given to the Overseer, who will hold onto them until all parts are obtained. This is a one-time occurrence. After a player receives their first Abyssal bludgeon, the Overseer will leave and an Overseer's book will appear. This book is used to make additional bludgeons.

The Overseer is a follower of Zamorak. During the God Wars, Zamorak sought all potential allies from the universe. The Overseer and its party headed to the Abyss, but were soon trapped alongside the Abyssal Sires. The Sires created the Abyssal Nexus to sustain themselves in deep stasis. The Overseer's party died off as time passed, leaving it the only survivor. It would remain in the Nexus for thousands of years and became aware that the God Wars eventually ended.

In the year 169 of the Fifth Age, the Abyss was discovered by Zamorakians wishing to make their own runes, as they were sanctioned by the Saradominists. The adventurer also discovered the Abyss due to this and headed into the Nexus, where they met the Overseer. It promised to create them a powerful weapon if they could defeat the Abyssal Sires and obtain some of its body parts.

Upon handing in the final bludgeon piece, it will create the weapon before stating that humans were still gullible as ever. By absorbing the powers, it claims to have obtained enough power to escape the Abyss and would visit Gielinor in the future. The adventurer remarked about the weapon's appearance, and the Overseer told them that it was a weapon that only a few could rival on Gielinor. Despite its deceit, the Overseer was grateful for their assistance and left behind a tome to allow the adventurer to create more bludgeons if they chose to. The adventurer has the option of thanking it or threatening to use the bludgeon on it. The Overseer bade farewell in turn if they were grateful, or promised to see them on the battlefield if threatened before teleporting away.
