Khazard–Gnome War

The Khazard–Gnome War is an ongoing military conflict between the Northern and Southern Gnomish Empire and the forces of the Mahjarrat General Khazard, centred at the Battlefield. The war is featured in the Gnome quest series, although much of it takes place outside the events of the series.

The war began as the result of the works of the infamous gnome illusionist Glouphrie the Untrusted, who attempted to convince Bolrie, disguised as an advisor, to run for election to success King Healthorg. He claimed that Healthorg was old and weak and his son, Argenthorg cared not for gnomes and would let the Gnomish Empire fall to humans. As such, he advised Bolrie, leader of the Tree Gnome Village, to attack the nearby settlement of Khazard and defeat him.

It was of course a ruse of Glouphrie and an attempt to begin a war against the humans, but Bolrie heeded his "advice" and Khazard retaliated. The gnomes built a large maze around their village to avoid it being attacked directly, with success. Meanwhile, Khazard occupied territory near the walls of West Ardougne and began to attack from the north. The battles saw the re-popularisation of the tortoise and terrorbird mounts which were used by the gnomes in the Battle of Atarisundri, as well as the founding of the Armoured Tortoise Regiment.

At one point the Gnome army got desperate enough to send one of their orbs of protection to the Battlefield.^[1] However this left their Village vulnerable, and a group of Khazard soldiers managed to navigate the maze, attack the village (killing King Bolren's wife and many other gnomes),^[2] and steal the other orbs.^[3] An adventurer managed to recover the orbs, defeating a Khazard warlord who was in possession of one of the orbs.

The war coincides with the Arposandran War, which is also a part of the gnome quest series.
