The Battle for the Eye was a battle that took place sometime during the God Wars. After the fall of the Zarosian Empire, one of the artefacts, codenamed "Primus", came into the possession of Saradomin sometime after Zamorak's banishment from Gielinor.[1] In reality, Primus was the Stone of Jas, an extremely powerful artefact created by the Elder Gods.
After acquiring the Stone, Saradomin hid it beneath the waves somewhere south of Hallowvale, and tasked Aliya and Zachariah, Justiciars of the Lion and Owl, with protecting the Stone, known to them as "The Eye of Saradomin".[2] Aliya was tasked to build a temple to house the artefact,[3] which became known as the Temple of the Eye, and was asked to keep secret of the fact they possessed the artefact.[4]
Eventually, Zarosian intelligence caught wind of Primus' location and informed Praefectus Classis Perseriya, commander of the Zarosian navy. After securing the artefact Imperium, orders were given to prepare for the battle to reclaim it.[5] With a small force to surprise the Saradominist forces, Perseriya devised a plan to teleport a large number of soldiers directly into the Temple, while keeping control of the seas above with her ships,[6] and to call in reinforcements if deemed necessary.[7] Zarosian analysts predicted the battle to be extremely fierce, as they knew the Saradominists would not let the Stone go without a fight.
Though the Battle resulted in heavy losses on both sides, it was Perseriya's attempt to call in reinforcements that ultimately resulted in the loss of the Zarosian fleet;[8] due to the presence of the Stone of Jas in the Temple, Perseriya's spell to summon reinforcements was warped and resulted in the opening of a rift into the Scar, a particularly dangerous part of Abyssal Space.[9] What remained of the fleet, if any did not get sucked in, retreated from the area.
With the Zarosian fleet gone, Aliya used the Stone to seal the rift,[10] and created The Great Guardian and many other rune guardians to protect the temple in the event the rift was reopened.[11] She then moved the Stone to a cavern that what would later be named the Fist of Guthix.[12]
