Kharid-et was a Zarosian settlement dating back to the Second Age.[1] It was situated east of modern-day Al Kharid, on the southern frontier of the Zarosian Empire.[2]
History
Throughout its existence, Kharid-et occupied a strategic position on the Zarosian Empire’s southern frontier. Its location bordering the Kharidian Lands placed it along the frontlines of the Kharidian–Zarosian War. At some point after Zaros' betrayal, Kharid-et came under attack, withstanding multiple enemy advances. In time, however, vast hordes of undead forced its defenders to seal the site and retreat from the area.[3]
Abandoned to the desert, Kharid-et was gradually swallowed by the sands, where it lay entombed for millennia. Excavations by the Varrock Museum in the late Fifth Age[1] uncovered what may have been sections of the fortress. Once their research was complete, the land was purchased by a group of warriors, including Mubariz, who used it to host duels.[4] After issues with match-fixers, the Emir of Al Kharid acquired the ruins and transformed them into the Emir's Arena.[5]
On the nearby Giants' Plateau, a travelling surgeon named Dr. Ford can be found near a mysterious hole, from which he claims to hear voices. It is possible this could be connected to further, as-yet undiscovered parts of Kharid-et.
Trivia
- "Kharid-et" is a valid entry when entered into the golem encountered during Desert Treasure II - The Fallen Empire.
- Calamity armour, an unreleased PvP Arena reward, was once worn by three notorious Zarosian followers.[6]
- In RuneScape 3, Kharid-et's history is a great deal more detailed. There, the city is under Giants' Plateau, with Emir's Arena instead being connected to the god Het. Kharid-et is most notable for being the location where Zaros met with the Mahjarrat to sway them to his side. After Zaros' defeat, it was the site of battles with both Zamorakian and Saradominist forces and was abandoned after a battle with an Icyene army. In the Sixth Age, Azzanadra ordered the excavation of the fortress, while disguised as a human archaeologist, in order to discover the fate of another Mahjarrat, Trindine.
