Bloodvelds are a type of demon that use their long tongues to attack their victims. Being a Slayer monster, bloodvelds require a Slayer level of 50 to be damaged by players. As a demon, it is affected by demonbane weapons. An ash sanctifier may be brought to receive Prayer experience. Bloodvelds are popular among many players for their high Hitpoints and low Defence, thus making them good sources of experience.

Bloodvelds are one of few monsters that attack with magic-based melee, meaning that despite it using melee attacks against the player, it is the player's magic defence (rather than their melee defence) that is used to determine the accuracy of the bloodveld's attack. As such, it is recommended for players killing bloodvelds to equip armour with decent magic defence, such as dragonhide or blood moon armour, as they are relatively accurate in combat. Players using Prayer should still pray Protect from Melee instead of magic to nullify damage.

There are many locations to kill bloodvelds, though the most common one is the Stronghold Slayer Cave, due to its close proximity to a bank. The bloodvelds can also be killed here with a dwarf multicannon, requiring relatively low attention. The Meiyerditch Laboratories are notably multi-combat and cannonable. It is not recommended to kill bloodvelds elsewhere, as they take longer to access and/or are not cannonable. Bloodvelds have a superior variant, the insatiable bloodveld, if the perk Bigger and Badder is active.

Players can also kill Mutated Bloodvelds in place of normal bloodvelds. These bloodvelds have even more hitpoints than their non-mutated counterparts and a vastly improved drop table to make up for their difficulty. Mutated bloodvelds are found in four locations: the Catacombs of Kourend, Meiyerditch Laboratories, Buccaneers' Laboratory, and Iorwerth Dungeon. Each location has their own advantages and disadvantages. Under most circumstances, players are recommended to kill them in the Meiyerditch Laboratories, as a cluster of seven mutated bloodvelds can be found. Coupled with its multicombat nature and the ability to place a cannon, bloodveld tasks here provide the most experience per hour and even more AFK time. Players with 76 Sailing may instead kill them at Buccaneers' Laboratory, which is also multicombat but has no obstacles blocking bloodvelds. Building the rowboat and bank chest makes accessing and banking here much faster than other locations.

The other two locations are only recommended when assigned there by Konar.

If assigned by Konar quo Maten, it is reasonable to kill bloodvelds if sent to the Slayer Tower, but tasks sending the player to the God Wars Dungeon should be skipped, as they do not allow for the insatiable bloodveld to spawn, and AFK'ing is not possible without drawing aggression from other monsters.

It is not recommended to kill them if assigned by Krystilia, as the only location they can be found is the Wilderness God Wars Dungeon, which is a dangerous multiway area where players run the risk of being killed by other players (along with incredibly sparse spawns) forcing them to bring minimal risk and thus lowering overall rates.

Players who are not assigned bloodvelds by Konar can alternatively use Expert Reanimation on ensouled bloodveld heads, as reanimated bloodveld count towards the task. While overall Slayer and combat experience is much less, this is a viable alternative for players who are training Prayer.

Monster variants

Monster Combat level Slayer XP Locations Notes
Bloodveld 76 120
  • For each tier of the Morytania Diary completed, players receive an additional Slayer 2.5% experience for bloodvelds slain at the Slayer Tower. Each tier completed results in an additional 3 Slayer experience per kill.
Bloodveld 81 134
  • The slightly-stronger God Wars bloodveld variant are followers of Zamorak and will be aggressive to the player unless the player has a Zamorak item equipped.
Insatiable Bloodveld 202 2,900
Mutated Bloodveld 123 170
  • Mutated bloodvelds in the Catacombs of Kourend can drop ancient shards and dark totem pieces. They can be killed in multicombat.
  • In the Iorwerth Dungeon, mutated bloodveld can drop crystal shards. This location can only be accessed after completion of Song of the Elves.
  • The Meiyerditch Laboratories location is a multi-combat area where a dwarf multicannon can be used to kill mutated bloodveld. The area is only accessible with partial completion of Sins of the Father (after killing the mutated bloodveld during the quest). However, the run to the Meiyerditch Laboratories is fairly long, so it is recommended to use Prayer there instead of food.
  • The Buccaneers' Laboratory location is also a multi-combat area where a dwarf multicannon can be used to kill mutated bloodveld. 76 Sailing is required to access this area. Players are recommended to build a rowboat on the island, which allows easy access through Pirates' Cove.
Insatiable mutated Bloodveld 278 4,100
Reanimated bloodveld N/A 35
  • Using the Expert Reanimation spell on an ensouled bloodveld head, players can reanimate a bloodveld for greatly reduced slayer experience. However, the player also receives 1,040 Prayer experience for each kill.
  • If the spell is not cast within a reasonable amount of time of picking up the head, or if the player trades the head or teleports away, then the user will need to reanimate the heads at the Dark Altar in Kourend.

  • Required 76 Sailing to access the Island.
  • The rowboat can be used to travel to Buccaneers' Haven from Pirates' Cove.

  • The drops will cover the use of the dwarf multicannon.
Catacombs of Kourend Show map 18 Mutated Bloodvelds Yes No Yes
  • There are three groups of mutated bloodvelds, in the north-east, south-east, and south-west.
  • The north-east location has the biggest cluster (seven) of mutated bloodvelds. It is an ideal area for using a goading potion.
  • The south-east location has five and is also suitable for goading potions.
  • The south-west location has six, but it is polluted by wandering possessed pickaxes. However, players can use the south-west path to the hill giants as a safespot. When attacking from the safespot (see image), try and attack Bloodvelds to the east of the safespot so they aggro and then get stuck on the corner, allowing for easier AFK killing
  • Monsters here have access to the Catacombs drop table, with superior variants always dropping a piece of the dark totem.
Iorwerth Dungeon Show map 12 Mutated Bloodvelds No Yes Yes
