Opened sarcophagi can be searched, which will give an artefact which can be sold to Simon Templeton. The chance of successfully opening a sarcophagus is affected by the player's current strength level.[1]
The chance to open the sarcophagus depends on your Strength level and the room level. Failing has no downside, other than needing to wait a few ticks until you can attempt again - you will automatically keep attempting to open it until successful.
It is impossible for very low Strength levels to open the sarcophagus in the final rooms (level 1 in room 7, and levels 1-7 in room 8).

Before 30 August 2023, the player only had a chance of obtaining the sceptre if a mummy did not spawn. This meant the effective rates of obtaining a sceptre were far lower than stated.
