Fried onions are a type of food that can be obtained by cooking chopped onions on a fire or cooking range, requiring level 42 Cooking and granting 60 experience when successful. Players may burn the onions while cooking one, resulting in a burnt onion; the burn rate while cooking these will decrease as players reach higher Cooking levels. It will stop burning entirely at Cooking level 77 on both ranges and fires. When eaten, fried onions heal 5 hitpoints.

It is more commonly used as an ingredient to create mushroom & onion topping by combining it with fried mushrooms at a Cooking level of 57. This does not grant any Cooking experience, but in turn mushroom & onion can be used at level 64 with a potato with butter to create a mushroom potato for 55 experience.

Trivia

  • Onions are the only ingredient needed to make fried onions. Because up to 10 onions can be stored in a sack, a sack of onions can heal 50 hitpoints in one inventory space if the player has a knife, a bowl, and access to a range or fire.
