Yama Speed-Runner is a grandmaster combat achievement which requires the player to defeat Yama in an average time of under 2:34 over the player's most recent four kills.
Strategy
The speed time effectively mandates having a partner to complete the achievement with, which works by calculating the average kill time of the players most recent four kills. This means that:
- Players do not have to stay in the same instance for all four kills.
- Players can teleport out after a kill to start another kill with full supplies and statuses.
- Players can teleport out mid-kill if the kill time appears unfavourable to preserve the streak.
Players can use various methods to speed up kills further:
- Spellbook Swap - players can bring runes for Spellbook Swap, Vengeance, Resurrect Greater Ghost, Mark of Darkness, and Death Charge to maximise damage output.
- Vengeance - casting Vengeance before starting the kill and not standing on a glyph to recoil damage back. For the Meteor Strike in phase 2, both players must stand in the centre of the attack in order to split the damage to 80 each.
- Judge self-bombing - players can stand under the Judge of Yama before it attacks so that the fireball lands on them.
- Special attacks - players using the soulflame horn should switch to burning claws right after using its special attack to guarantee their partner's dragon warhammer/elder maul special attack. Using surge potions and Death Charge can increase the number of usable special attacks, especially in phase 3.
- Melee phase 3 - using melee for phase 3 with methods such as the donofly and dumping special attacks (without getting out of cycle) will substantially increase the chance of a fast time.
