World entity
This copy was last processed on . The copied wiki revision is dated .
A world entity is a portion of the map that is projected onto another location, typically the ocean. Named entities are denoted by pink text in the right-click Choose Option menu. Players and NPCs can move relative to a world entity and interact with items and objects placed inside it, while the entity itself is free to rotate and move across the map. Currently, the only examples of world entities are boats belonging to players and NPCs, and trawling shoals.

Movement
World entities appear to rotate and translate relative to the ocean, but in reality they are stationary rectangles located far off to the north-east, oriented with the bow facing south, being projected onto the map players see. As such, players and NPCs can move relative to the entity in the typical fashion – one or two tiles at a time along a cartesian grid, when walking or running.
The entities themselves, when projected onto the game world, may be oriented along one of 16 directions, and travel an integer multiple of 0.25 tiles every tick. Players can interact with external objects, items, and NPCs from within a world entity, and even with such things located on other world entities. For example, they may telegrab items on the shore from a boat, or speak to Rum-dashed Ralph aboard his sloop. Nothing fundamentally prohibits such interactions, but certain actions may be disallowed, such as telegrabbing an item sitting on another player's boat.
When two or more world entities overlap, typically only one will continue rendering, and the rest will appear as shadows passing unimpeded beneath. In the case of charter ships, they do not cause boats to appear as shadows, but will block the movement of any entity sailing into it.
