The heart crystal is a quest item used in the Legends' Quest. It's created by killing the three knights Ranalph Devere, Irvig Senay and San Tojalon in the Viyeldi caves dungeon within Kharazi Jungle to obtain a lump of crystal, a hunk of crystal and a chunk of crystal respectively, which can then be combined to form the heart crystal by using them on the furnace. Once combined, the crystal must be activated by using it on the mossy rock in the caves, before it can be used on the recess in order to fill it, which deactivates the Shimmering fields.
It is not possible to obtain the heart fragments after filling the recess, or while in possession of a either a heart crystal or a knight's respective piece drop, even if stored within the bank or the nearby furnace. However, duplicate parts as well as the full crystal can be obtained before this point in Legend's Quest by utilising the drop trick. If the player does this, they are able to create multiple (albeit useless) heart crystals even after completing the quest.
Attempting to use an inactive heart crystal on the mossy rock while holding an already active heart crystal in the inventory gives the chatbox messages: The magic in the stones doesn't seem to work. The glowing dragon heart crystal in your Inventory throbs and vibrates.
Attempting to use an activated heart crystal on the recess next to the shimmering field after having placed one in the recess already gives the chatbox message: The cave is already open to you.
