Overview of the Maregubbene fight.

Game Jam VI was a Game Jam that took place between 21 October 2024 and 1 November 2024.

Most of the projects were listed in a dedicated post.

Some additional media listed comes from discord forums, which Jmods used for this game jam to discuss and share information more freely.

Projects

Maregubbenes Hall: A Skilling and PvM Boss

Mod Jerv, Mod Rice, Mod Mack, Mod Skylark, Mod West, Mod Harold, Mod Hend, Mod Errol, and Mod Jamesy worked on Maregubbene, a troll boss that has skillers and PvMers work together in a mutualistic way. Brynjar, a Fremennik warband leader, has been trapped within a realm in his mind by a three-headed troll created from his nightmares. His oneiromancer friend plans to help get him out by enlisting adventurers to keep the troll away from his mind until dawn, allowing Brynjar to sleep peacefully.

The gameplay loop against Maregubbene is as follows:

  • Fighters use their tier 1 armour and bows to fight Maregubbene, who drops troll scraps. The scraps are picked up by Gremlins, who bring the materials back to the skillers.
  • Skillers gather materials to make tier 2 armour and bows using Woodcutting, Fletching, Crafting, and Agility. They also must cook jam for the fighters to use as food.
  • With enough troll scraps, Gremlin beards, and wood, skillers are able to make tier 3 armour and bows.
  • The upgraded equipment and food are given to the fighters as needed, allowing them to deal more damage against Maregubbene and take less of it.
  • The cycle repeats until the fight ends.

Rewards from defeating Maregubbene have not been considered, but will likely include anything that thematically makes sense, including skilling-specific rewards and PvM upgrades.

Player Owned Lodge and Fragrant Harvest Minigame

Mod Other, Mod Blossom, Mod Elena, Mod Curse, and Mod Ry worked on a player-owned lodge, as well as a new tea-brewing minigame, both of which are accessed on an island via Sailing.

The lodge, found on an island of cherry trees, was once the home of renowned tea maker Aunt Irah and her husband. Irah and her husband soon noticed the island was a gathering place for the spirits of sailors who found themselves lost in the afterlife. Irah used the cherry blossoms from the trees to create tea that could soothe these spirits. Long after their deaths, the player will find the lodge and Irah's spirit tea shop in disrepair. She will recruit the player to repair the shop and bring peace to the spirits of the island, along with giving them her blessing to make the lodge their own.

The island has multiple amenities, including:

  • Traditional skilling locations for Mining, Woodcutting, Fishing, and Crafting.
  • Tree patches for Farming.
  • A player-operated sawmill, which does not require GP to create planks, but is slower and requires the sawblade to be repaired periodically.

After repairing the tea shop, the player will have access to the Fragrant Harvest minigame. Unlike most minigames, Fragrant Harvest has no time limit, and may be picked up and put down whenever the player feels like it. Players gather falling cherry blossoms using a basket, and use the blossoms to brew spirit-soothing tea. As thanks, spirits will leave behind blossom tokens, which can be traded in to Aunt Irah for various cherry blossom-themed rewards.

Rewards from Fragrant Harvest include:

Slayer Monster Smorgasbord

Mod Rice and Mod Grub worked on creating more interesting and exciting Slayer monsters. All monsters below have opt-in mechanics that let players speed up the task if they wish to put the effort in, while not penalizing those who wish to simply AFK through the task.

  • The Mage Prison is a giant floating box. Every 30 seconds, the prison enters a vulnerability phase, where attacking on all sides gives the player increased attack speed. This incentivises switching to a normally slow yet hard-hitting weapon during this phase.
  • The Pious Monk is a relatively unassuming monk. When enough damage is dealt to the monk, he will transform into his true demonic form. Demonbane weapons used against the monk while in demon form are guaranteed to max hit.
  • Armoured Trolls, as their name implies, are heavily armoured. They carry a shield which increases their Slash defence greatly. However, the shield can be broken by shattering it with a Crush weapon, making all Slash attacks against them have 100% accuracy. Alternatively, a Stab weapon will slowly yet consistently pierce the troll's defence.

Sanguimancy

Mod Arcane, Mod West, Mod Halo, and Mod Harold worked on an alternative method to obtaining blood shards.

Compared to thieving vyres or killing Vyrewatch Sentinels, killing blood jellies is far more expensive, but potentially less time-consuming, only requiring resources the player has already gathered. A machine run in the Sisterhood Sanctuary by Sister Erodisil has the ability to create blood jellies, which can drop blood shards:

  • Players place blood-related items into the machine's hopper.
  • The more items added, the fuller the machine's vat becomes, meaning the jelly that is made will be bigger.
  • Players pull the lever to generate a jelly. The bigger the jelly is, the more expensive it is to generate, but it is also more likely to drop a blood shard.

The ballpark value of items required to generate a jelly with a good chance at a blood shard is 10,000,000 GP, roughly the value of a blood shard at the time of the Game Jam. As such, players have a choice between generating one massive jelly with a good chance at a blood shard, or generating many smaller jellies with worse odds of dropping a shard, requiring more time to kill all of them but less money to create one of them.

King Kyatt

Mod Skylark, Mod West, Mod Harold, Mod Hend, Mod Jamesy, Mod Rice, and Mod Mack worked on the King Kyatt, a skilling boss that uses Hunter and Crafting to subdue the strongest kyatt to ever exist. The King Kyatt can be found in a cave near Rellekka.

As the King Kyatt has the ability to summon and control lesser kyatts, players must craft traps and kill them with their Hunter knowledge before offering the remains to a sacrificial fire. At any given moment, different parts of the kyatt will be worth more when sacrificed (changing roughly every 60 seconds), meaning players must quickly choose between large net traps (yielding flesh), bear traps (yielding bones), and poison mushrooms (yielding teeth) in order to obtain the part worth the most at that time, all while dodging the King Kyatt's roar attack to avoid taking damage/losing parts. Occasionally, a Kitty Kyatt can appear, which may be caught and pickpocketed for an item that may be sacrificed for even more experience.

Drops from the King Kyatt include:

  • Kyatt Pelt - used to create the spottiest cape, which provides an even greater weight reduction than the spottier cape while also increasing Hunter catch rates
  • Kyatt Leather - used to cosmetically enhance the guild hunter outfit
  • Kyatt Hairball - used to combine the rogue gloves and gloves of silence to create the gloves of rogue silence, which combines the effects of both (and stacks with the Ardougne Diary, unlike the regular gloves of silence)
  • Kyatt Fur Scrap - used to reinforce Kyatt hunter gear, allowing it to completely negate all damage from Hunter creatures
    • This reinforcement decays over time, but will eventually become permanent if the gear is reinforced enough

Additionally, subduing the King Kyatt enough times teaches the player new Hunter techniques, including:

  • The ability to craft an infinite stake for pitfall and deadfall traps, negating the need to bring an axe and knife for such traps
  • The ability to set 2 pitfalls/deadfalls at once
  • The ability to craft Hunter gear yourself, without needing to visit Asyff or Pellem
  • The ability to create omni-bait, a stackable form of bait that can be used on all traps
  • The ability to transmog Quetzin into a raven based on Huginn and Muninn, a pair of ravens from Norse mythology

Cacao Trees & Chocolate Brewing

Mod West worked on adding cacao trees and chocolate brews, with the goal of helping to alleviate run energy depletion without requiring stamina potions.

Cacao trees can be planted at level 60 Farming in special cacao patches found only in the Garden of Ralos, a new area within the Tlati Rainforest. The Garden also houses flower patches, calquat patches, and an allotment patch. The yield of cacao and calquat trees can be dramatically increased by keeping bees within the Garden happy with food, water, and comfort; also yielding honey.

Cacao beans harvested from the trees can be processed into chocolate dust, processed into chocolate paste (used in brewing cocoa liquor), or traded with the citizens of a nearby town for brewing upgrades and Farming upgrades, such as a spade that harvests allotment and seaweed patches faster.

In order to brew cocoa liquor, players must sweeten it with corn syrup (created from corn meal) or honey. They also must flavor it with either chili powder (from hot peppers, an allotment requiring 55 Farming) or vanilla pods (from Tlati vanilla orchids, a flower requiring 75 Farming; vanilla orchids also protect hot peppers from disease).

  • Chili powder creates spicy cocoa liquor, which restores 10% energy per sip and reduces energy drain by 30%.
    • Spicy cocoa liquor requires chocolate paste, harralander, corn syrup, chili powder, and a calquat keg.
  • Vanilla pods creates sweet cocoa liquor, which restores 20% energy per sip and reduces energy drain by 50%.
    • Sweet cocoa liquor requires chocolate paste, avantoe, honey, vanilla pods, and a calquat keg.
  • For context, the stamina potion restores 20% energy per dose and reduces energy drain by 70%.

Mounted Trophy Rework

Mod Ash worked on improving the head trophy and fishing trophy spaces of the player-owned house skill hall, including:

  • Allowing players to switch through unlocked mountable heads without having to rebuild the display each time
    • This would condense Construction requirements as follows:
      • Level 38 Construction: the teak trophy space can display the mounted crawling hand, cockatrice head, and basilisk head
      • Level 58 Construction: the mahogany trophy space can display the basic trophies above, along with the mounted kurask head and abyssal demon head
      • Level 78 Construction: the gilded trophy space can display all of the trophies above, along with the mounted King Black Dragon heads and Kalphite Queen head
      • Level 82 Construction: the gilded trophy space can now additionally display the mounted Vorkath head and Alchemical Hydra heads
    • Players can also upgrade the space while the heads are on display
    • Players can mount additional heads for experience without having to rebuild the display
  • House guests can view the menu used to switch between heads, allowing them to admire the owner's complete head collection
  • All of the above changes will also apply to mounted big fish as well

Misc Things

Mod Necro worked on various miscellaneous changes, including:

  • Reworking the holy wrench to consistently restore more prayer points per prayer potion/super restore/Sanfew serum dose
    • Proposal 1 simply flattens the bonus prayer points given to scale to the player's Prayer level, instead of giving an additional 2% per dose:
      • Level 40-59 Prayer: 1 bonus Prayer point per dose
      • Level 60-79 Prayer: 2 bonus Prayer points per dose
      • Level 80-99 Prayer: 3 bonus Prayer points per dose
    • Proposal 2 adds the devout points system:
      • Drinking a dose of any of the above potions gives devout points equivalent to 40% of the Prayer points restored, capped at one dose worth of points
      • While prayers are active and the player has devout points, there is a 50% chance a Prayer point will not be drained, draining 1 devout point instead
      • Devout points decay at a flat rate when out of combat, and extremely quickly if the player does not have a holy wrench in their inventory
  • Fixing the AI of the sheep in Sheep Herder to make them far less painful to herd
  • Adding a "rarer loot table" that can be rolled whenever the player gets a drop from the rare drop table (similar to the gem drop table and mega-rare drop table)
    • Said rarer drop table would average between 100,000 and 400,000 GP in loot, with one potential reward including blacksteel ingots, which can be alloyed and added to a dragon sq shield to give it dragonfire protection
