Christmas crackers are a tradeable holiday item that can be obtained by completing one of the Christmas holiday events that occur once per year. They can be used on another player to provide party hats and rewards to both participants.
Ironmen cannot use party crackers on other players, so they have no use for crackers other than to sacrifice them to Death's coffer. Group ironmen however can open crackers with members of their group.
History
Previously, they were obtained by using the clues given by Jagex through various means (forums, Twitter, etc) and giving a specific set of items to an NPC. This event started on 1 September 2013 and lasted until 7 September, with one clue being shown every day. Players could only receive a Christmas cracker for the clue given that day. If a player participated for all 7 days, they would have received 7 crackers. If a player tried to do a clue from a previous day, the specified NPC would not accept the items.
- Day 1: Dommik 1 hammer, 3 tin, 5 clay
- Day 2: Advisor Ghrim 2 planks, 6 logs, 10 bronze nails
- Day 3: TzHaar-Ket-Zuh 1 coal, 3 iron bars, 4 limestone
- Day 4: Barker 1 (soft) leather, 2 balls of wool, 5 silk
- Day 5: Cook (Lumbridge) 2 chef's hats, 2 white aprons, 12 knives
- Day 6: Baker (Ardougne) 2 pot of flour, 3 cheese, 6 tomatoes
- Day 7: Emily (Falador) 1 bucket of water, 4 redberries, 5 cooking apples
Rewards
Held within the cracker is a partyhat and one other item or a stack of items, such as some coins, runes, or weapons. To open it, it must be used with another player. Upon opening, the player who used the cracker can choose a partyhat and a secondary item that both will receive.

Trivia
- Christmas crackers are infamous in RuneScape history, dating back to RuneScape Classic when they were first introduced to the game during the 2001 Christmas Event. Due to the fact this was the only time a supply of them was added to the game, they quickly became rare items worth hundreds of thousands to millions of gold in the years to come. While Christmas crackers varied wildly in perceived value, raising or dropping by millions of gold in just a few days' time, they typically went for substantially more than any individual partyhat in RuneScape 2 due to being rare items in and of themselves and also having the possibility of containing one of the more desired hats.
- Attempting to use a Christmas cracker on a Jagex Moderator account returns the chatbox message Sorry, but you can't do that to Staff Mods.
- Christmas crackers may be used to obtain a Black dagger on Entrana.
- Crackers and crown-shaped partyhats are typical Christmas dinner toys in England and other Commonwealth countries such as Australia and New Zealand, but are not particularly common elsewhere. In the rest of the world, brightly-coloured paper crowns have no obvious association with Christmas.
- They are called "crackers" because of the loud popping sound they make when broken, and traditionally contain a deliberately poor-quality or overused joke (along with a toy and a tissue paper crown).
- Players of Multi-User Dungeon, the first MUD (proto-MMO) from 1978, received Christmas crackers for its 1984 Christmas event. The game was based in Essex, England and many other local MUD games continued the tradition.
