The Champion of Scabaras is fought during the Beneath Cursed Sands quest in the Scabaras Dungeon, being summoned by the High Priest of Scabaras as the player tries to liberate him from Amascut's control.

The Champion of Scabaras will attack with magical shadow attacks and melee up close. After a certain amount of basic attacks, the Champion will use one of three special attacks (Order being Shadow Burst -> Shadow Rift -> Shadow Burst -> Shadow Flames -> Repeat)

• Shadow Burst - The Champion will cast a shadow beneath themselves, then proceed to send out a burst of shadow magic. This reaches for 4 tiles, and can hit over 40 damage multiple times (less if farther away from the champion). If you run away from this attack late, you can get hit by both the near and far damage. It is advised to kite the Champion throughout the fight to avoid this attack, as he cannot be frozen due to his magic immunity.
• Shadow Rift - The Champion will shout We are born in the shadows! and summon a Shadow Rift within the arena. The rift has 20 Hitpoints and will explode, dealing 35+ damage, so it is recommended to quickly destroy it; however some players may find it easier to pre-eat and tank this attack, focusing instead on continuing to attack the Champion.
• Shadow Flames - The Champion will shout The children of Scabaras are eternal!, and a poisonous scarab swarm will appear. The swarm has 5 hitpoints and leaves dark fire in its path, which will hurt when stood upon. It is advised to kill the swarm as fast as possible as the fire will linger and hinder movement if left unattended.

It is advised to pray against magic throughout the fight, and kill the Champion with ranged attacks to avoid its shadow burst. The Champion is immune to binds and freezes. Despite there being an altar in the west of the room, it is not available to pray at until after the fight is over.

If players die during the fight, their Gravestone will be found by the tomb's entrance on the surface.

The Champion does not regenerate health over time. Despite the name and appearance, he does not count as a scabarite for Slayer tasks.
