Spirit saplings are saplings that can be used to grow spirit trees starting at level 83 Farming. They can be made by planting a spirit seed in a filled plant pot, with a gardening trowel in your inventory, and then watering the spirit seedling with a watering can or by using the Humidify spell. When watered, the seedling will sprout into a sapling in one crop cycle (0-5 minutes). Unlike other saplings, Tool leprechauns will not note spirit saplings.

Planting the sapling in a spirit tree patch requires a spade in your inventory. It takes 3840 minutes (2 days and 16 hours) for a sapling to grow into a spirit tree. Players can ask the nearby gardener to protect their tree from disease whilst it grows, which requires a payment of 5 monkey nuts, 1 monkey bar, and 1 ground tooth. This payment can be noted.

At level 83 Farming, players can only have one spirit tree planted at a time, not including the one in their player-owned house. They can have two at 88, three at 93, and four at 96. Upon reaching 99 Farming, the restriction is removed, and players can plant unlimited spirit trees. As there are limited spots the player can plant spirit trees, any excess spirit saplings may be traded in at Guildmaster Jane for seed packs (tier 5).

Spirit trees can be planted starting from as low as level 78 Farming by boosting with spicy stews. When boosting, note that planting the seed in the pot and planting the sapling in a patch both require 83 Farming, however both can be done in one boost if timed correctly. Saplings grow on every growth tick, which occurs once every 5 minutes, with some variance as to the exact timing for each player. First, determine when this tick happens for you with a different seedling. Then, check with another skill boost if the skill reduction tick isn't too close to the sapling tick. If the ticks don't overlap, you can easily grow the seedling and plant the sapling in one boost.

A fully grown spirit tree which has not had its health checked by the player cannot be teleported to from other spirit trees.
